Welcome to ROPNET!
ROPNET is the official listserve of the Rural Organizing Project (ROP). It is a secure list to the extent that all names added are involved with the work of the ROP. Our email listserve was one of the first to use email to organize when it was launched in the early 1990s.
ROPNET is intended first and foremost to break the isolation that rural human rights activists can experience. Because the list has grown over the years, we changed the system in 2002 so that the ROP office makes all posts. There is a secondary list, ROPTTT, that anyone enrolled in ROPTTT can post information to. Our aim is to keep the amount of email on ROPNET to just a few a week and have them be summaries of information so that interested folks can then choose to get more information on the topic. Everyone is informed but no one is inundated!
We encourage you to share regular but short updates on your local human rights work and the challenges you face and successes you experience. If your group is working on a project - share! If your group is facing a new challenge - send it to the office and we will post it. We will all learn and might be able to help. Your perspective on local human rights issues is what makes ROPNET a powerful tool. Send these posts to office@rop.org. Since Oregon is the 10th largest state in the country, effective posts tell people what happened and how to repeat it versus inviting folks to attend events that are in another county.
If you are not currently subscribed to ROPTTT and are interested in a more discussion-oriented list, please send a request to subscribe to ROPTTT to office@rop.org.
If you want to suggest a new list member or change your subscription info contact the ROP office at office@rop.org.
