Five dead. Major flooding. Road closed by down trees. Much of the
coast without electricity. Vernonia is isolated and won't be
reconnected for several days. Lots of people without power for a few
days. This is a truly bad Pacific Northwest storm.

It is so nice to live in the Pacific Northwest.

I am serious. If this was Bangladesh it could be 150 mph winds,
3,500 dead and millions homeless, with severe loss of food crops,
like 2007.

I am concerned for those who are without heat or homes in this storm,
but the wind had died down and the waters will soon recede. The
social fabric that will help them is still intact and fortunately
help is coming to them. The power crews will have their electricity
restored. The National Guard has trucks that can get through the
roads. The Coast Guard has helicopters that can reach them on their
roofs. The city and county crews will do their jobs. The neighbors
will help each other. This is a great place to live, and events like
this help me to appreciate just how lucky I am to be here.
