According to Smart Money , Portland is #2 when it comes to tax-friendly cities in the U.S. for travelers. Then, after getting mesmerized by the mountains and all the greenery, some of the visitors turn into residents and get the shock of 9% state income tax. Without a sales tax, it does make it easier on travelers but pretty hellish for residents. And what happens if the Measure 59 initiative on the November ballot gets approved? This is the initiative that would allow for 100% deduction of federal tax paid on the state return.
Maybe all this is by choice? Sort of? Please visit but don't stay?
