[Grovenet] Good choice, John!!

One of the 'credentials' for Sarah Palin that points to her being a
reformer is the fact that she refused the pork barrel $ for the
'bridge to nowhere'. Now ask yourself if that was such a difficult
decision? Here was a project that had become the laughing stock of
the entire nation and the AK senator was headed for indictment. Plus
Alaska has landed more pork barrel $ than you can shake a stick at.
So, if she refused the $ that was likely to be withdrawn any way and
it would in no way jeopardize the other money headed for Alaska it
was a no brainer. Something that any politician could have done.

And it is a similar situation for ethics reform. There have been half
a dozen or more times in recent history when the corruption at the
state level has become so widespread that a 2 yr old could be elected
governor and ethics reform would be easy to pass. When Palin easily
started to clean up Alaska's government it says just as more about
the depth and breadth of the problem than it does about her prowess.

Okay, she gets credit for eliminating the state plane. Does that make
her presidential material? Hardly. Has she been tested as a governor
of a state with falling resources? No. Alaska is more awash with
money thanks to the price of oil and the fact that she raised taxes
on oil companies.
Being tested and ready for the VP slot should mean more than being in
the right place for 20 months at an opportune time.

PS Bob I disagree with the % win factor. If Obama wins (and that is a
big if for a black candidate in a Karl Rove world) it will be close.
