My general rule is that I don't bet money, especially when I would
love for the other person to win and in this case I truly hope that
you are right*.
If there is one reason that Obama should win it is because he has a
deep understanding of the fact that change only (emphasis on only)
comes from the bottom up. This is true in dictatorships, in
oligarchies, in democracies and especially in our government where
the system is set up of, by, and for the people. He has been
consistent for the last 18 months that the change we will get will be
the change that we insist must happen. John McCain does not get that
one iota and you can see it because he is grasping at straws trying
to figure out what kind of change people want. (The VP pick was a
very big grasp at some random change that he thinks will be
satisfactory just by the fact that a woman is on the ticket.)
The reason why I have my doubts that Obama will win by the margins
you suggest is that the American people have not yet settled on what
kind of change they are willing to demand of their leaders and by
extension themselves. In a way I feel sorry for McCain. With Obama's
understand of the constitution he knows that it has to come from the
people and that the people have to define it. McCain thinks he can
offer it up on a platter with the right packaging and he is trying
pretty hard to package something, anything.
But the unknown here rests within people. The outcome depends on what
we collectively decide and we are too susceptible to advertising.
This election will in effect, just like those of the past, be decided
upon the best advertising. The only difference is that more people
will be watching the advertisements and paying attention and feeling
like they have a stake in the outcome. I'm keeping my fingers
crossed....

*I'm usually pretty happy just being able to say 'I told you so'. And
if you are right I would be happy to shout that 'you told me so!'
