Below is a message from Superintendent Musser regarding the proposed schedule change at Neil Armstrong Middle School:

Superintendent Jack Musser has decided to not implement a six period schedule at Neil Armstrong Middle School for the 2008-09 school year. He strongly believes that we need to implement improvements at the middle school by increasing instructional time, especially in the areas of literacy and math. He also believes that we must reduce the student transitions during the school day. Given those needs, he anticipates making a change after a more thorough public process to educate and inform current and future parents at Neil Armstrong Middle School.

A process will be established by August 2008, along with a timeline for implementing changes at the middle school for the 2009-10 school year. The process will include participation from the staff scheduling committee, input from all Neil Armstrong staff, and informational meetings next fall for parents of students in grades 5-8, as well as other community members. The process will also include the participation of the school site council. It is important that parents attend at least one of the meetings to hear about the increased Oregon high school graduation requirements and why changes are needed due to higher stakes that our incoming seventh grade students will experience when they arrive at the high school. Notices of the meetings will be available on the district and school web sites, in school newsletters and on flyers from the school.

Letters will be mailed to each student's home by the end of the July, with your child's schedule and information regarding the school year.
