[Grovenet] Berkley Liberals

I don't have a problem with the idealists.

I had to chuckle when you said liberals have outgrown/transcended etc
their idealism because my now conservative relative told me that
while she had 'seen the light' she was terribly confused about why I,
who used to be seen as the conservative one, had gone over as she
said 'to the dark side'.*
I chuckled when she said it too because she has been so
disenfranchised by the righties she now identifies with. It is
classic Stockholm syndrome, where you defend your kidnappers even
though they are the ones who wronged you. That is what is driving
'liberals' who have 'faced reality'.

Back in the good ol' days when my family saw me as the conservative
one, she would wear the 'question authority' buttons and I would be
appalled. Why would you question those with more experience? She now
is appalled by the 'question authority' buttons and I wear them. Why?
Because the ones who don't want you to question their authority over
you are trying to stab you in the back while you aren't looking. I
too have outgrown, transcended, seen reality, etc my former label as
well.

If you think liberals have had an about face, just wait until you see
the about face that is taking place among the conservatives. It
won't be over for a long time. I bet too that a lot of those Berkley
liberals will convert back for the duration.

Recovering some of that original idealism may just save us all.

*This was said to me way before Cheney was VP so it has to be taken
in the context of 10 years ago. I know that now it is strongly
identified with Cheney but please take it as it was said back then.
