The purple in the next to last was equally telling, and it was easier
to read. While there were red areas and blue areas, there was a lot
of "moderate" areas.

There are a lot of things to be learned from this election and the
commentary. The "Lee Atwater" presentation last night on OPB was
interesting as well. While I personally think Atwater was a scary
character, and the people who sought his talents are suspect, he had
his defenders. Even among the campaign of McCain/Palin. By the way,
Karl Rove and George Bush learned a lot by watching him. If we do
not understand and appreciate the reasons Atwater was successful, we
cannot properly serve the interests of the whole nation. Atwater
spoke to a heartfelt need among his constituency. Right, Left or
otherwise, his approach can be dismissed only at the peril of seeing
it come back to haunt those who don't appreciate it.
