And actually, neither are computers made in USA,
for the most part!

The idea has been proposed and they are
'thinking' about it. It may
happen and then again it may not. As to how
much it will be that
depends on who writes the legislation. And we
(as in grovenuts) may
not get any.
The stimulus is theoretically designed to be
spent so it will
stimulate the economy. With the last one, a lot
of people paid off
debt, which didn't increase demand, or was saved
for a rainy day,
which also did not increase demand.
The talk that I have heard is that, if there is
a next one, they will
target it to people who will absolutely spend it
on stuff. Like the
unemployed who are having troubles eating and
paying for home
heating. They will go out and buy groceries and
heating oil.
Or they might target it to businesses that want
to expand and buy
equipment, thus making it easier to buy big
pieces of equipment.
In either case, don't hold your breath. But the
idea of going out and
buying a computer may be close to what will
happen. With digital TV
coming down the road, they may send out a check
either before
Christmas or before the Feb conversion date,
hoping that people will
go out and buy new TVs so they don't scream when
they realize they
can't get TV any more and they didn't buy a
converter box (or can't
figure out how to connect it).
My objection to the TV idea is that TV's are not
made in the USA for
the most part and the stimulus would just boost
our trade deficit.
