O S Card is a Democrat.
"So for years I used to tell people I was a Democrat because of Jesse  
Helms.

His reasoning isn't exactly based upon party platforms or performance  
in multiple areas.  It is a reaction to the local Republican "good  
ole boy" spirit in his town, county, state.  He is sick of racial  
prejudice and aligns with the Democrats because they are not  
Republicans.  Otherwise he is a very conservative Democrat.
