[Grovenet] Speaking of wingnuts...

I don't agree w/the assertion from Faux News that if the story turns out to be fabricated it means the race is over for the McCain/Palin ticket.  If the story is indeed proven false, Senator McCain can easily distance himself from Todd by saying it was a desperate act from a young lady who needs our support and prayers.  And if the story is proven false, it would not be good for Senator Obama to refer to it as an example of race baiting because then Senator McCain and/or Governor Palin could blast Senator Obama for being mean-spirited and out of line for attacking a troubled young lady who needs our support, guidance, counciling and prayers.

Subject: [Grovenet] Speaking of wingnuts...

Perhaps you've heard of the Young Republican, Ashley Todd, from Texas A&M who claimed that an Obama supporter mugged her at an ATM near Pittsburgh...

Ahem...Faux News did report the story...but also added this:  "If the incident turns out to be a hoax, Senator McCain's quest for the presidency is over, forever linked to race-baiting."

Faux News, now.  Really.

Well, as Paul Harvey says, here's the rest of the story:

"Police sources tell KDKA that a campaign worker has now confessed to making up a story that a mugger attacked her and cut the letter 'B' in her face after seeing her McCain bumper sticker [...]

Investigators did say that they received photos from the ATM machine and 'the photographs were verified as not being the victim making the transaction'"

This afternoon, a Pittsburgh police commander told KDKA Investigator Marty Griffin that Todd confessed to making up the story.

The commander added that Todd will face charges; but police have not commented on what those charges will be."

Good night, John.  Good night, Sarah.
