[Grovenet] Rules are for somebody else

Whatever truly happened with Sarah Palin between her speech in Texas and delivery of her 5th child I do not know as I wasn't there to witness. But if her water really did break in Texas yet she wanted to be in Alaska to give birth, if this is indeed correct, I'm starting to wonder whose best interest her choice was for.
And that supports my concern today . . . Sarah Palin has a 4-month old son with Downs Syndrome (DS). Caring for a DS child does require more effort than caring for a child w/o DS or autism or MS or like difficulties. Sarah also has a 17-year old unwed, 5-month pregnant daughter.
If I was faced with the same situation as Sarah and asked if I would be the Vice President choice on a major party ticket, I don't know that I would accept the VP request. Why? Because to me, given all that's going on in Sarah's immediate family, her focus should be on family. Sure, being offered the position to be the VP on the ticket would be incredibly flattering and heady. I won't deny that. But for me it comes back to what is most important: family. And right now Sarah's family really needs her . . . her 4-month old son and her teenage daughter, not to mention the rest of the family.
4 years ago I was in a position requiring 85% travel. I was in this particular role for about 1 year and was steadily increasing my responsibility and sphere of influence. But the cost to my family was starting to escalate, so I made the decision to take a different role and reduce my travel to no greater than 5%. Did my career take a hit? At the time, yes. But over the long haul, not only was it ABSOLUTELY the right choice for the family but it has turned out to be a good career move as well.
So as I look to Sarah Palin, I simply cannot agree with her choice to join John McCain as the VP candidate for the Republican party. I believe she should not have accepted his offer and she should have chosen instead to focus more time w/her family. And her choice now makes me doubt she'll put the Country first in a choice she may have to make as VP. I fear she'll make choices in her professional life that are best for her, not her Country.

I think not, but what do I know?
I don't know which airline she used, Alaska Airlines has no
restrictions on travel by pregnant women, while other airlines do.
So, she may not have broken any rules. Since delivery of second,
third, fourth, or fifth children is frequently faster than the
delivery of the previous child, having the water "break" should be a
strong indicator that delivery is coming soon. A consultation with a
doctor would be reasonable before traveling.
