[Grovenet] Listening to the Republican National Convention speeches

Yesterday after work, I drove a borrowed truck to the coast towing a
trailer. Fortunately it had a radio and I was able to listen to many
of the RNC speeches on the way. I got Mayor Guillani and Governor
Lingle before and after McMinneville. Then as Governor Palin was
about to speak I came upon road construction between Sheridan and
Grand Ronde. I had to stop, and I wanted to turn off the engine.
For some reason the truck didn't have a functioning "accessory"
position on the ignition key, so if I wanted to listen to Palin
speak, I was needed to leave the engine running, which I did. The
wait lasted about twenty minutes.
This morning I was describing the experience to someone, and I
realized that I was sitting in the failing light, wasting gas, idling
my engine, waiting for traffic to clear, smelling asphalt, watching a
state highway construction project, between a federal prison and an
Indian reservation gambling casino, as I listened to the Republican
Vice-Presidential candidate talk about her vision of America.
I know there is a parable in there somewhere.
