[Grovenet] Obama urges delay in digital TV transition - MSNBCArticles

I can think of two or three reason why it might be advantageous to
wait a while longer.
And the date to switch was, at least as far as I can tell, completely
arbitrary.
The most logical reason seems to be this. When the you know what
hits the fan in mid February, people are going to be calling their
congressperson and giving them an earful. Med February is now the
projected time that the economic rescue plan will be making its way
out of Congress. Depending on your perspective the rescue plan looks
either a) like it is important that it be done right the first time
or b) so fraught with problems in a Congress that is already shaping
up as one that will bicker this thing into the ground that it will
take even longer to get through.
Back when we were bailing out Bear Stearns the Bush spokesmen were
saying it was necessary because we were on the verge of an
international economic meltdown. And while they may get credit for
not stepping off that cliff at the time, there is little evidence
that we have moved away from a similar precipice if not the exact
same one.
In the overall global priorities, would you want the US Congress
getting bombarded with calls about TVs at the time they should be
working on keeping us safe from deflation or would you feel
comfortable that they could handle a technical electronic issue at
the same time as a national economic or global crisis? Given that
the timing is arbitrary for the TV switch I would let Congress focus
on the most important issue and let the TV switch wait.
We may be able to get more channels with digital TV but I doubt that
we will be getting better content in those channels with digital TV.
