Hi, Fellow Grovenetters!

I realize that not everyone here needs/uses resale shops or thrift stores
to purchase clothing for childern, but come 10 February, individuals and
stores who resell used children's clothing could face a penalty of
--$100,000,
--possible jail time,
--and the title of felon.

Why? Because this is when the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act
(CPSIA) will go into effect. The broad wording and the way it is being
implemented will effectively mean that locally, Good Will and Smarty Pants
won't be able to sell any donated used clothing after this date and forget
holding a yard sale to pass along those jeans, etc.

If you are interested in learning more, visit www.narts.org which is an
organization for resale shops and which has a petition as well as a link to
contact our congressmen.

I realize that there are many differing opinions on what needs to happen in
this country, but I am going to ask that you contact Sen. Jeff Merkley and
Sen. Ron Wyden on this so that something as nonsensical as this bill
doesn't make felons out of ordinary people trying to pass along used
clothing so that it doesn't have to go into the landfill.

While I don't own such a store, I use them frequently, as well as those
wonderful garage sales!

Sincerely,

Cindy Gritton
