Hello Gary

I read about a year ago about Firefly and Caterpillar. They did not say
anything about how the technology worked but that they had some kind of break
though.

This article states the use of graphite foam. The article also says that
Firefly caught the attention of Caterpillar. From what I remember Caterpillar
started Firefly to develop what Caterpillar had discovered.

If the batteries were the same size but could cut the weight of lead acid
batteries to weigh half as much would a be huge break though.

A lead battery that weighs 1/3 to 1/4 and puts out the same a NiMH if
reliable is all that is needed for EVs. They bring up being able to discharge and
charge at faster rates on top of this. Why they overlook BEV and the more
important issue is leaving your mower for the winter? I guess we will not tell
them about float chargers so they keep developing the battery.

 I. Francis Cheng of the University of Idaho is about 2/3 of the way though
their research grant time

Thanks for forwarding the link. It is good to know their is battery
development happening that should be affordable.

a few years back we did a bulk order of optimas, and got them for $104
or so a piece. i've since killed my pack (*sigh*) and need to get 20
more, does anyone else need a set?

However, like all new technology in startup companies, breathe freely
while waiting for it to come to market...
