Benefit Auction for Plug In America To: sailingfu59 at yahoo.com Date: Friday, October 31, 2008, 3:33 PM tracy, The Green Car Company in Seattle will auction its first 2009-model converted Plug-in Prius on eBay and donate the proceeds of the profit to Plug In America, the nation's leading advocacy organization for plug-in vehicles. These Plug-in Prius hybrids feature the crash-tested A123 Hymotion Li-on battery pack installed by Hymotion CHIP-certified technicians. This means Toyota's standard factory warranty remains in place along with a 3-year unlimited-mile warranty covering the added battery pack.? These Plug-in Prius hybrids can travel up to 40 miles in pure electric mode, satisfying the daily driving needs of most Americans, whereas a regular Prius kicks into gas mode after only a few miles. The auction starts today and runs through November 9th, the last day of the Seattle Auto Show, where the car will be on display. Here's your chance to get in front of the line and avoid the 150 person waiting list! The auction webpage PIA plans to use the proceeds from this auction to target the new U.S. President's "first 100 days" to ensure that electric vehicles are included in any new stimulus package or automotive bail-out package. Since both major candidates agree on the importance of energy independence and renewables, we are certain to see a "green" stimulus package addressing clean-tech infrastructure projects and jobs involving renewable energy. We need to make sure that electric vehicle incentives and infrastructure projects end up front and center! We need to make sure that any bail-out monies to the auto industry include requirements for them to make more electric vehicles and accelerate any current plans to put EVs on the road! About Plug In America: Plug In America drives change. Our mission is to accelerate the shift to plug-in electric vehicles powered by clean, affordable, domestic electricity. Our goal is to reduce our nation's dependence on petroleum and improve the global environment. Message-ID: <63b848a60811030822y2113891ct84e3623e1e4ab57c@mail.gmail.com> Shorepower Technologies is pleased to announce that we now offer PHEV conversions based on the Plug-In Supply kit. This conversion uses 20 lead acid motorcycle batteries (B&B, 20AH). One really nice feature is that the car can be driven in EV only mode at speeds up to 50mph. The batteries sit in a very nicely done battery box, which takes the place of the plastic storage tub that is above the spare tire and below the carpeted cover. The box lifts up with gas shocks to allow access to the spare tire (neat feature). An upgraded rear suspension (stronger springs) is included in the conversion. Range in EV only mode is estimated at 8-12 miles. Range in PHEV mode varies quite a bit with driving patterns. The additional battery pack is wired in parallel to the main pack and accepts regen. Driving as a PHEV has produced a fuel economy of up to 80 mpg in our preliminary tests. Shorepower and Synkromotive are currently developing a battery monitoring system that will better protect the batteries both during charging and operation of the vehicle. We are testing a prototype this week. Pricing: $6700 standard kit (includes parts, labor and shipping) target price for the battery monitoring system is an additional $400 (parts and labor). Our first conversion is sold, completed, and at the shop for testing and improvements prior to delivery to the customer later this week. We welcome inquiries, questions and are taking orders at this time. Our fist customer attends oeva meetings so we hope that she will bring it to the next meeting. check out www.pluginsupply.com for more info. Shorepower also offers EV conversions. A 2000 Jetta is currently available at a price of $18,000. Additionally, we continue to develop and market EV charging stations. The charging station looks great. I'd also recommend Mia Famiglia (sp?) which is just a few blocks further down Main Street at the West End of the Oregon City Bridge. I'd also note that from there you can take the old city elevator up which is just a few blocks from more restaurants and museums. There is also a Wednesday special of jalepeno burritos at the bar next door to the charging station which frightned me. Friday tacos would be more to my liking. There's also gelato next to Subway in a coffee shop (with wifi). But can you park for more than an hour? The Oregon City parking sign last week said "one hour" parking next to the station and it appeared that the employees at the boating store were using the charging stations' spots as "all day" parking. This wasn't a problem for me with an extension chord and eBike. There is ample parking west of the charging station in Oregon City and I suppose it would not be recommended to run an extension chord that far across the sidewalk. Will the signage change to make spots more readily available? Signage that says "no parking except electric" might give more people a jolt. There was plenty of ICE parking when I was there. -----Original Message----- From: Rick Durst [mailto:Rick.Durst at pgn.com] Sent: Tuesday, November 4, 2008 11:25 AM To: 'Marshall, Wendy', oeva-list at oeva.org Subject: Re: [Oeva-list] Charging Station Map The link to the page is: http://www.afdc.energy.gov/afdc/stations/find_station.php On the left side menu bar choose add/delete a station. I believe they should go ahead and mark 2 spots as EV only, as there did seem to be plenty of regular spots. If you leave one of the spots open even for one hour only for non-plug-in, then it will likely always be occupied so an EV can't use it. OMSI has their 2 spots marked with a bright green curb, and bright green ELECTRIC marked on the pavement. How hard would it be to have a brake lever actuating it so that regen is not a drag until you pull on the brake lever and the further you pull on it, progressively stronger is the regen and braking? Could this be done with a modified dc motor, or would using an ac motor or alternator be better? Voltage of the pack is going to be 60 volts. Thanks in advance for any input. Have a great week. I would really like to see this stay in Oregon or Washington within EV distance of Portland. I am willing to help anyone interested in buying it. The only body damage information in the auction is some light door dings on one of the trucks box side. West Hills will fix the box side damage for free if this stays in Oregon or Southwest Washington. Towing to Portland is only 200 dollars. Or you use a generator with two stops of around three hours of charging each it could be driven back. If your up to driving it back I have the generator. These factory Ranger trucks are rare only at the most about 200 in the world and most of them are white. I have one and there are a couple of others arou nd town now too. If someone is really interested in Lan's you could check out mine to see what they are like. It is not for sale I plan to keep it as it is my last one. Other than the color it is the same vehicle. Cheers, Tim OEVA Chair ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: JAMES Art Sent: Thursday, November 13, 2008 4:28 PM Subject: OTC Approves Statewide Procurement for Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Today the Oregon Transportation Commission unanimously authorized ODOT's Innovative Partnership office to undertake a statewide procurement for EV charging infrastructure. You can view the presentation at: ftp://ftp.odot.state.or.us/outgoing/Art_James_OTC_Presentation_10-08/ We will be convening a technical advisory group (TAG) to help develop standards and specifications for the appearance, performance and safety features of the Oregon EV charging network to be included as addenda to the procurement documents. If you know of people with specific expertise in this field that would be good candidates for this group, please forward their contact info to me. Participants will need to certify that they have no conflict of interest, will not be a part of any proposing entity to the RFP and are able to execute a legally binding non-disclosure agreement. After the specifications are developed and before the RFP is published, we will be releasing a draft for industry review and comment. This will be an opportunity potential proposers to weigh in on the specifications. Although there is no specific timeline for the project, I would expect the RFP would go out in the 1st Q-09 with negotiated price agreements reached by the 3rd Q-09. I was initially skeptical that this would be another naive "bio-diesel will solve everything" promotion, but was pleasantly surprised to find a much more mature discussion of the many diverse components of any energy solution. To be sure, it began by appropriately pointing out the unholy connections between the oil industry and government, how short-term corporate greed has caused costly and long lasting damage to the environment and public health, and some good historical background on the diesel engine and relative benefits of bio-diesel, especially now that diesels must meet air pollution standards comparable to gasoline powered vehicles. However, it went well beyond this, pointing out the problems of the initial bio-fuel approaches which divert cropland and rain forest to ethanol and bio-diesel production at the expense of food production. I was impressed by the way it presented not only better ways to produce bio-fuels and "organic oil", but put them in perspective with the other diverse components that can help us utilize the abundance of renewable, sustainable energy that is available to us right now. Each aspect, solar energy, wind, plug-in hybrids, public transportation, and good old energy efficiency was properly explored, noting its potential, limitations of scale, and inputs required. In short, the film fills a gap in public education with regard to energy--one that is useful to individual grass roots efforts as well as public policymakers. If I recall from our experience with "Who Killed The Electric Car", the decision for the next week will depend on how many people see it this weekend. This means that Sunday is a good day to see it--if not, it should be there at least until Thursday. If enough people see it nationally, it will appear on DVD! If so, more people will get to see this worthwhile documentary. Gary ----- We don't have an energy crisis, we have only a crisis in education. R. The event is going to be up at FAU Jupiter, where we held it 2 years ago. This year's event is going to be the largest one yet as we are expanding our focus from electric vehicles and including Hybrids and Plug-in Hybrids this year as well. We are expecting huge participation from spectators and participants. The 2 day event will feature electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrids in acceleration testing, autocross and other events. There is also going to be a ride and drive event to give people the chance to actually drive the vehicles there on site. This year, the site will be split into two areas, the event field as we had before, and a vendor display area. A PDF with the event information in it, which includes the sponsor/vendor form, can be downloaded from here: http://floridaeaa.org/uploads/PDdownloads/BBB2009_Info_Packet.pdf. We are just now reaching out for sponsors and vendors and I wanted to get this over to you soon. With this new format, we believe that it will be an excellent venue to not only get our message out to people but also provide our vendors and sponsors and great sales opportunity. Please contact Lon directly. Cheers, Tim ----- Forwarded Message ---- Lon Hull (loni.hull at comcast.net) has sent you (office: chair) the following feedback from the OEVA website: Hi Tim, I work with EVs at Synkromotive here in Portland and am placing an order of $3500.00 with Universal Power Group. I'd like to get the total order amount to above $5,000.00 for a significant per-unit discount (even greater above $10,000), and was wondering if you'd be willing to put the word out to OEVA members that they can get in on a group purchase. I can send Universal's price list to anyone who is interested. I don't represent them in any way, but their reputation is deservedly exceptional. E-mails can be sent directly to me at loni.hull at comcast.net. I'd like to get the order in by late next week. Hopefully this will help out OEVA members in the near term, and I will likely be organizing similar purchases on a regular basis. Thanks for your time. Ruff & Tuff has teamed up with China's Shuanghuan Automobile Company to bring the little EV to America as early as next spring. The two companies hope to break into the budding market for EVs that are (relatively) inexpensive, safe and cool enough for urban environs. The way they see it, the time is right to bring an affordable EV to the masses. ... the Wheego Whip is capable of 60 mph, it'll be restricted to neighborhood electric vehicle status and limited to 25 or 35 mph, depending upon the state, until the feds sign off on its crash worthiness.
