Giving them the benefit of considering the broad range of options. Our firm belief is that the next 5 years will see a strong movement towards energy diversification - especially in regards to personal transportation. More Hybrids, Plug-In Hybrids, Honda is ramping up production of Natural Gas Civics and Electric vehicles will move from the hobbyist garage to mass production. Each presentation lasts about 45 minutes, providing an overview the of benefits and limitations of both current and developing technologies. When and Where: Next Saturday, September 13th: 10:00am - 2:00pm. (Presented several times) It will be at the Beaverton Joe's Sports at 3485 SW Cedar Hills Blvd (6 blocks north of Canyon Rd) I want to emphasize... No prior knowledge is required and there will not be a test. Technical information is limited to details that complement the discussion. There is to be a representation of Hybrids, Electric and Natural Gas vehicles. We encourage and welcome participation of current owners of Alternative Fuel Vehicles. Please come down and share your experience with others. I am having a hard time committing to rental of a small warehouse space to house my EV business. I see way to many opportunties out there for myself as well as for others wishing to start EV oriented businesses that might want to shre space or for individuals wanting to rent space outside of their homes in order to build their own EV's. I am meeting with a building owner on Wednesday about leasing a large building, my question to the membership is: are any people out there that would be interested in renting a space to utilize for building or working on an EV and do you think that with more advertising that there might be a steady stream of individuals? It would include access to mig/tig, plasma, milling machine capabilities, etc. What do you think woud be an acceptable daily rate for rental of a stall to individuals? ? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Rick Durst 503-464-7631 >>> Stan Sumich 9/5/2008 10:15 AM >>> As you may know, Portland Community College (PCC) is one of several locations throughout the nation that is hosting the ?2008 National AFV Day Odyssey? on from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM on Friday, October 3, 2008. We are extremely excited about having the opportunity to host this event along with the sponsorship of Oregon Department of Energy and Columbia-Willamette Clean Cities Coalition, Inc. Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFVs) are still a well kept secret despite the growing number of manufacturers who produce these vehicles for the consumer market, and despite governmental incentives for using AFVs in fleets for industry, businesses, and other commercial enterprises. PCC, as a member of the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC), wants to spread the exciting news that AFVs are a positive transportation choice for fleets, as well as the individual consumer. We also want to bring together others in the AFV field to help build collaborations, focus attention on the good work they are providing, and be a springboard for further dialogue for the AFV cause. We are seeking out those who are committed to alternative fuels and AFVs, cleaner air, and energy independence to participate in this event on a local level. More importantly, we hope the synergy of our partnerships will add excitement (as well as expertise and support) to make this one-day event a dazzling display of how powerful the choice to use AFVs can be. As such, to be successful, we need everyone?s support. Together, we can let decision makers, fleet owners, automotive workforce, and consumers alike, experience the excitement about Alternative Fuel Vehicles, and: ? See the trends ? Find the options ? Meet the movers ? Explore ownership opportunities ? Discover AFV training and employment possibilities To meet these criteria, I am attempting to determine if your organization can provide Alternative Fuel vehicles, or related equipment, products and/or brochures to be displayed at PCC during the ?2008 National AFV Day Odyssey?. Additionally, I would like to know if you or your staff would be interested in making a short presentation (approximately 30 - 45 minutes) regarding Alternative Fuel Vehicles or related equipment and products. Due to the very short time frame between now and October 3rd, I need to know by no later than Thursday, September 11th if you are interested in participating. I look forward to discussing with you, any specific needs your organization may have for participating in this event. Please don?t hesitate to contact me at (503) 518-3083 or by email at stanley.sumich at pcc.edu if you have any questions. Three other boxes are for SAFT STM-100MR NiCADs. One holds three modules end-to-end, one holds five side-by side, and the last holds 20 modules in five rows of four modules. This last box was built by SAFT for the Pivco CitiBee vehicles (ancestor to the THink). Pictures and rough measurements are online at: http://picasaweb.google.com/prizmev/BatteryBoxes I'm hoping to get rid of these rather quickly, and so am selling them at the scrap metal price of 80 cents per pound. Weights are listed on first picture for each box on the page above. I'll be taking these to the scrap metal recycler this weekend, so if you're interested in anything let me know ASAP! I feel your pain in regards to the response to the treasurer position. If no one voluteers to take the position off of your hands I will assume it for the next year. Let me explain why I am not pursuing it with gusto, and this may offend some people reading this. When involved with something I feel strongly about, in this case EV's and?I have a goal, I tend to push things... hard, ?and when people are not moving at a brisk pace to get things done, I tend to move them to the side and forge ahead as I have no need for feet draggers. I realize this position is for treasurer, but regardless, I tend to take things over and I am not PC about it, which is why I tend to shy away from being part of the established heiarchy. I tend to surround myself with people that don't even recognize that there is a box let alone conceive of thinking out of one. ???? The fact that no one has come forward?(that I have seen) to volunteer for this position tells a lot about how vested the membership is in the OEVA. Unless we put forward a great deal of effort, we will?continue to be a little backwater EV club in a state that has major aspirations to be a green leader. I feel we?should be, and have the ability to be a mover and shaker in at least a few facets of the?blossoming EV industry.?After this seemingly long ramble, I have a lot of strings I need to grab ahold of and weave together, but I think it would behoove the club to have a treasurer and it appears that you are not so into the position anymore, so I will weave another loose end into my projects if you need it, if you and the membership can put up with me. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... It comes in .PDF form. It contains a bunch of good information, but it's only 41 pages long and I found Mike Brown's "Convert It!" better, albeit a bit older. The advantage of the $50 subscription is that it's an electronic book that's continually updated so you can get the latest version whenever they come out. Last month's newsletter (Let's Party!) announced a very special upcoming event for Plug In America on September 27th in Southern California at the Culver City home of Chris Paine, Director of "Who Killed the Electric Car?". RSVPs are coming in steadily, so if you want to join us at this engagement, please go to www.pluginamerica.org/party soon! Even if you can't come, you can help support us by going to our online Silent Auction (see below). Here, you will have a chance to purchase unique items that can't be had elsewhere. Here's an update: Chris Paine and Chelsea Sexton will kick off the evening and introduce our two special guest speakers, Dan Neil, and R. James Woolsey. Many of you have read Dan's Los Angeles Times auto column and know that he won a Pulitzer Prize in 2004 for his column Rumble Seat. The Pulitzer board described his automobile reviews as "blending technical expertise with offbeat humor and astute cultural criticism." Former CIA Director Jim Woolsey will speak on a serious topic -- national security -- but his presentation will surprise even the most serious of us. Last but not least, the skies will be glowing with a special appearance by a very rare car -- the first Tesla that came off the production line -- the Tesla P1. This beauty may be joined by another rare car. And don't be surprised if the cameras start rolling. Chris Paine will shoot parts of the evening for his new documentary, "Revenge of the Electric Car". Since so many guests are coming after the AltCar Expo, we expect the attire to be casual. Indeed, since the host's house is undergoing a major remodel, the party will be out of doors where we can enjoy the sunset and a poolside setting. An Electrifying Shopping Experience - Please Support Our Silent Auction! Have a look! Plug In America's Silent Auction is online now at www.pluginamerica.cmarket.com. Support Plug In America by purchasing something special. The holidays are coming soon! Many of these offerings are not available in stores. For instance, you can help out with a new movie by Chris Paine, ride in an electric boat, and you can dine with board member and actress Alexandra Paul. You'll need to provide a credit card to prove seriousness and legitimacy to the process. You can make special arrangements to pay via personal check or PayPal or credit card. Some items can be bought outright - other items will continue to be bid on at the Plug In America party. Please email events at pluginamerica.org if you have any questions. Many thanks to those who have donated unique products and services. Plug In America has grown almost entirely from the tireless efforts of a talented and professional volunteer board of directors who joined together out of a passion to stop the auto companies from destroying the 1990s generation of electric cars. Fast forward many years later, and there is tremendous work to be done. Thank you for supporting our work at this critical juncture. Electric Charging Time Victory From CARB It is worth mentioning that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) has postponed its rulemaking on the electric vehicle charging requirements of the Hybrid Electric Vehicles Test Procedures. CARB stated in a written memo that the charging requirements will be considered in a future rulemaking that is not yet scheduled. Everyone at Plug In America has breathed a sigh of relief. CARB's proposed charging requirements would have mandated a four-hour fast charging for all CARB-certified zero emission vehicles. Earlier in August Plug In America sent a formal commentary to CARB detailing how onerous the four-hour charging time mandate would be, and questioned why this limitation would not apply to other alternative fueled vehicles, such as compressed natural gas. The fact that the charging requirement has been postponed indefinitely suggests that it may not show up again. Additional information on these activities is posted to this web site: www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/zevprog/hevtest/hevtest.htm Recommended Reading: Coming Clean - Breaking America's Addiction to Oil and Coal by Michael Brune, Executive Director, Rainforest Action Network published by Sierra Club Books Michael Brune begins his tale of America's entrenched fossil fuel addiction with a quote by Victor Hugo: "There is one thing stronger than all the armies of the world, and that is an idea whose time has come." According to Brune, the time has come, and the time is up. He presents a compelling case for the big clean-up with relentless clarity that compels us all to act. If widely known, the facts in this book could serve to awaken America from its all-too-familiar status quo, business-as-usual stupor. Brune also documents the passion and intensity of the advocacy wave for electric transportation and the people involved, including many behind the scenes here at Plug In America. Brune's organization Rainforest Action Network was instrumental in teaming up with Plug In America to organize and orchestrate actions against GM, Toyota and Ford. Coming Clean presents the case for unleashing America from its savage slavery to fossil fuels and includes real world solutions. More importantly, though, we learn HOW to affect the cure. This is recommended reading. Plug In America Sets Up An Infrastructure Committee A "plug-in future" is almost here as we look forward to the release of several production electric vehicles in the next few years. With foresight and planning, cities, neighborhood groups and major developers are already considering how to incorporate charging stations into new housing, shopping districts and public parking areas. Private companies are starting to envision how they might set up opportunities for their employees to keep vehicles juiced up. How do local policies and efforts further or encumber such efforts? How does the word get out so that the wheel does not have to be reinvented? Plug In America is fortunate to have the support of many talented high-level volunteers. Now we are seeking qualified participants for an Infrastructure Committee that can serve as a hub for communication among architects, city planners, electricians, policy makers, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified professionals who are furthering LEED buildings and neighborhoods, and others. Our aim is to advance the consideration of an EV infrastructure and how it is integrated into green building and city & regional planning. Plug In America will convene and chair this group whose members will start meeting in October via conference call. While a detailed work plan will ultimately be decided, Plug In America proposes to identify and tackle a real life project in a jurisdiction that shares our vision. Your suggestions and thoughts are welcome even if you have no time to work on a committee. Please email your interest in participating to infrastructure at pluginamerica.org. Great News Automotive Magazine Ranks Plug In America: Plug In America was named as one of Automotive Magazine's top five "key players" in its October 2008 issue. We are considered one of the most influential nonprofit organizations pursuing Greens Dreams of an environmental cause. Thumbs Up from the IRS: Plug In America received official word from the Internal Revenue Service that we are a 501c3 nonprofit organization, applicable retroactively as of January 2008. Any donations made during 2008 are considered fully tax deductable to the extent of the law. We wish to thank the Electric Auto Association (EAA) for helping us during our inception by being our legal fiscal agent, accepting membership dues directed to Plug In America and teaming up with us for many great events. How does Plug In America now differ from the EAA? We are less of a hands-on vehicle educational group and more of a consumer advocacy and policy entity. Plug In America attracts people who may be passionate about an electric transportation future, but who may not want to understand all of the inner workings under the hood of a car. The article touches on a lot of issues. I think that the safety issue of the Tesla is one interesting point. The Tesla passed all the crash tests and they nailed it with a really safe battery system too. The article author also mentioned that GM brought us the Hummer. I believe that isn't exactly true. GM bought Hummer after sales were already growing fast. And the reason for that was also safety. I was at the 2003 Advertising Research Foundation conference when the GM chief marketing strategist explained that the Hummer is most like bought and driven by a female (since this conference I've seen a lot of soccer Mom's with a Hummer and Starbucks in the cup holder). A big Hummer makes people feel safer. Greenies also like Hummers. I met a gentleman at the Better Living Show who had more than one Hummer running on Biodiesel. This year I heard Rob Ferber speak on a panel, he is a battery scientist and worked with Tesla. One of the panelists suggested that Electric wasn't very likely in big trucks ...and Mr. Ferber pointed out that 200 ton submarines were electrically powered in the early 1900s. It seems to me that like the Tesla pushed the sports car end of things, that there will likely be a market for large EVs too. The more people see the possibilities, the more likely that your battery costs will go down too. -----Original Message----- From: phil hochstetler [mailto:phil at hochstetler.com] Sent: Monday, September 22, 2008 10:19 AM To: 'Tony McCormick' Cc: 'OEVA' Subject: Re: [Oeva-list] Mean machines go green You can only read the preview portion of the article from your link (unless you pay $$) but the entire issue but the article is available here: http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2008/09/19/3660470.htm --phil On Sun, Sep 21, 2008 at 10:44 PM, Tony McCormick wrote: Cover article in this weeks New Scientist Mag. http://www.newscientist.com/contents/issue/2674.html* * http://tinyurl.com/52gawg -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... At Shorepower Technologies we offer a wide range of electric vehicle services including vehicle conversions.? It is our intention to be able to offer a few standard models which we could then reproduce more efficiently.? We will also offer more custom services on a time and materials basis.? We currently have a 2000 Jetta almost ready for sale, a 2003 mini cooper in process, a ZAP pickup that has been upgraded, and a Prius that has been converted to allow it to be plugged in (PHEV). A small pickup is a very good choice for an ev conversion.? S-10's have been a popular choice in the past.? A Toyota Tacoma would also be a good choice.? There are a few basic questions that usually come up right away.? How fast will it go? How far will it go? How much will it cost? How long will the conversion take? I would suggest that $15-$20K is a good ballpark to start with.? This would get you a basic conversion with lead acid batteries that would give you a range of about 20 miles (depending on conditions) and limited freeway capabilty.? More expensive batteries, such as lithium, which can greatly increase range, can also double the price.? Most conversions still use DC motors, but AC systems are available, which offer neat features like regerative braking (and a higher price tag). Hopefully this helps you get started. If you have more questions you are welcome to post them to the oeva board or contact us directly. Thanks again for your interest in ev's! This time I am emailing to field suggestions. A little background -- I work for a locally owned EV company in Eugene. We are currently in the R&D phase of building three-wheeled EVs, and plan to start production early next year. For those folks who requested information last time I sent out an email, I am really sorry for not getting back to you with details. We are further along in the process now, and I can provide information at this point to those who would like it (or take suggestions from those who would like to give them). To avoid spamming the OEVA email list, my work email is: emily at arcimoto.com. Anyway . . . To The Point! We are putting together some suggestions to submit to the legislature this session. I would like to know if anyone has suggestions for items that they would like changed, introduced, etc. We will probably submit a preliminary document by the end of this week or early next week. Smaller lithium-ion (Li-ion) rechargeable batteries for laptop computers and other uses are common round the globe, but most fuel- saving hybrid cars use an older technology, nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. German components group Continental's factory in Nuremberg will make batteries weighing 25 kilograms and allow electric motors in cars to supplement the output of combustion engines by up to 19 kilowatts of power. The technology is to be installed in Mercedes S400 Blue Hybrid cars from the middle of next year, Continental said. The factory can make up to 15,000 of the batteries per year. ------------------------------------------------------------------ anyways... should we be excited about this company? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Regarding legislation, we really need to encourage both manufacturers and consumers to innovate and take risks to increase the implementation of zero emission transportation. I think anything that uses the grid to charge should tie into point of use solar and wind incentives. Actually, the infrastructure must grow together - Washington State predicts a 500MW grid shortage so they have passed carbon free production legislation that gives tax based incentives to manufacturers and performance based incentives to consumers. It was passed in 2005 and not really reaching critical mass. Like so many things it is such a chicken or the egg situation - I think we just need to wait for the natural economics to drive the demand up and the production scale will drive the prices down. But, we can't charge the car if the grid is dead, so I really think (hope) we will see more point of use generation and large (20MW+) carbon free wind or solar power plants. Regarding Li Ion batteries - Continental/Enax and A123 are making big Li Ion battery modules which look very easy to integrate in vehicles (to me, they look like huge AA batteries with lug terminals). But they will not sell to the backyard conversion folks like most of us (I tried). Actually, A123 will sell small, expensive cells as part of their developer's kit - I am so tempted. I guess we just wait. My sister sent me the following today: ------------------------------------------------------------------ http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/233889,german-factory-claims- first-in-automotive-lithium-ion-batteries.html Berlin - A factory making lithium-ion batteries for hybrid- drive cars opened in Germany Wednesday, with owner Continental saying it was the first in the world to mass-produce the storage cells. I am a graduated student from Automotive College in Tongji Uni. in China and major in automotive electrics. I plan to further my study in the United Stats and electric vehicle technology is my target field because I am quite interested in it. I find your e-mail address on the page of Electric Auto Association which aims to "promote the advancement and widespread adoption of Electric Vehicles". I believe electric vehicle, especially plug-in EV, is of great potential and will be widely used one day. I hope I can make some contributions to develop such technology and release a new vehicle which is affordable to the public. In order to realize the goal, the first step is going to the American University which is professional in this field. However, it is not convenient to get such information in China because my teachers are not familiar with the American universities or their research progress. Could you please recommend me some universities which are researching EV technologies and have graduate program on it? Thank you very much. Your reply is very appreciated. Best regards! My partner, Ives Meadors, has been working on motor controllers since the early 2000's (sounds so strange to say that...). My background is in industrial design, and together we are designing a very complete, versatile and modular EV drive system, including motor controllers, BMS and charging systems, and LCD displays. As I'm fond of saying, Ives is the brains, I just make it look good... We are nearing completing on our first product, a DC series motor controller with a host of very nice EV integration features that should make the conversion process much simpler. I'll post a link on our site when I can get the pdf file up there for everyone to view. We are about to release a Beta Program involving 10-15 people, many in the OEVA, to do our final real world testing and obtain drive data logging and user feedback. We've had a bit of a hiccup in the process, as the company that made the heatsinks I designed our assembly around just went into receivership (ThermoFlo, for those who care...) So I'm now in the process of RFQ'ing our HS design to new extruders. If anyone has suggestions for an extrusion house that can do a high 'tongue to fin' ratio extrusion, please let me know! On other fronts, we've been prototyping a new BMS/charger/monitor system that's going to be a really great product for the EV community. It's modular, and will work with any number of PbA batteries, and soon lithium. It will fully communicate with the controller for complete battery protection, charge control and monitoring and will also work as a stand alone system with any other controller, but without some of the more advanced features. Sorry to be a bit vague, but we're still working on some potential IP issues. We will release more info shortly. As for our web site, we've been running 'under the radar' because we don't want to fall into the trap of many overly zealous EV companies who over promise and under deliver. We're very conscious of backing up our claims with real product that exceeds expectations. We're also just too darn busy to finish the site up! But we have a rough edit done that we'll put up in the next couple weeks. Until then, if you have specific questions about us or our DC motor controller, or are interested in the Beta Program, feel free to drop me a line. E-mail is best. I will attend the next OEVA meeting (Oct) and bring some demo product with me and answer more questions at that time. Also, the pdf Beta spec sheet is just that... Beta. Some things may change, but overall it's very close to production spec. I would like to thank all the members who have stuck with us (in secret...!) and a big shout out to Tony McCormick and Travis Gintz for their support in what we're trying to do. The vehicle should be passing through sometime in the next 2-3 days. If you go to spiritofdc.com and click on the MAP link, it'll show you exactly where the car is in real time. Cheers, Tim Kutscha OEVA Chair ------------------------------------- From:Jerry Asher Sent:Wednesday, September 24, 2008 10:37 PM Subject:Preliminary "Spirit of DC" PHEV3A Update ... for Seattle EVA, Vancouver EVA and Oregon EVA Cheers Seattle EVA'rs (Steve & Donna, John, Bruce, Don, "Father Time," et al), Vancouver EVA'rs (Don, John, Walter, Alan, John, Gordon, Haakon et al), and Oregon EVA'rs (Rick, Eric, Gary, Paul, Brad & Donna, John, Scott, et al) - Below is a preliminary "Spirit of DC" Plug-in Hybrid EV All Around America (PHEV3A) update (to be posted more graphically and colorfully on the www.SpiritofDC.com website). Right now, the "Spirit" has visited her 33rd State Capital - Salt Lake City ... and her 19th EAA Chapter - the Utah EV Coalition (UEVC) members at a superb get-together with some 300 kids at the Morningside Elementary School. On Friday, the 25th of September, the "Spirit" moveth to Boise, Idaho - the 34th State Capital, ... to Helena, Montana - the 35th ... afterwards, it's back to Idaho to 'rendez vous' with the Panhandle EVA members near Spokane, Washington, which may be probably late Sunday evening. Probably on Tuesday, 29 September (depending perhaps on Media EVents with the "Spirit"), it's on to Seattle, Vancouver, Victoria, Olympia, Portland and Salem ... . What's going on day- by-day is not so certain, only the routing and hypermiling EVforts on blue highways. But hopefully, telephonic notice within 48 hours will be there. However, you can track the "Spirit" by clicking on "MAP" on www.SpiritofDC.com. Now do peruse the below update. EVer from Salt Lake City, "Spirit of DC" & EVJerry Asher (202) 486-5450 . The Spirit of DC?s? PHEV 3A? EVDUCATIONAL TOUR: The Plug-in H ybrid Electric V ehicle Traveling All A round A merica ! ..Because seeing is believing. Join us and the thousands who will get to see History in the making -- creating the first EVer All American Prius PHEV ? and maybe influence some of it - during this groundbreaking EVenture: a state-by-state ?show & tell? of the excitingly real, astoundingly practical plug-in-powered vehicle that spells FREEDOM of choice and FREEDOM from America's slavish reliance on gas! ? 101 MPG assisted with electric opportune recharging as the projected Goal or cuss! The Spirit of DCUpdating: The Spirit of DCaimed ideally high ? 10,201 miles in at least 101 days along with a daily 101 MPG, as achieved through plugging in standard 110-volt electricity for recharging as much as possible. Now all in a good cause, the ?Spirit? wanted to introduce Americans across the landto the real and practical Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle ? a real-life demonstration of real-life capabilities that we can do NOW. The ?Father of the Modern Plug-In Hybrid,? University of California at Davis Professor Andy Frank, said, "A long electric range PHEV is first an EV," and we consider our PHEV the "Spirit of DC" in the same way! Yet, realities do set in. See www.SpiritofDC.com While it?s still real for PHEVs to provide America desperately in need of a viable choice -- something that?s a realistic, appealing alternative to $4 and $5 per gallon gas, ?, something that?s environmentally clean and lean, as in plugging-in at 60?80? worth of Kilowatts of electricity at the GGE (gasoline gallon equivalent) rate! The ?Spirit? has to re-adjust the daily goal of 101MPG assisted by electricity to that of hitting six five-minute increment of 101MPG in a row, as shown on the Prius screen for Consumption. Simply and essentially put, this is due the lead acid battery limitations and availability of charging outlets, as well as time constraints in a 24-hour day. However, that re-adjusted goal could change dramatically ? should Nickel Metal Hydride (NMH) ? or even Lithium Ion (Li-ion) batteries appear for the ?Spirit of DC?s? use. What then back in April, 2008, seemed ideally possible within a 101-day timeframe has morphed into a 1,001 Nights of Eventure! So that takes some adjusting! Particularly in view of time and climate constraints with Autumn fast approaching and a return to DC ? fingers crossed before Thanksgiving. The diminishing financial resources that need replenishing are also to be factored in. For example, the ?Spirit? has traveled some 11,000 miles all around the Eastern Coast and into Canada several times, across the MidWest and thru the Rocky Mountains ... with the first submitted gasoline bills and tolls amounting to well over $550. The electricity for charging has been really at ?no cost.? Also, the graphic signage for the ?Spirit? is over $500. Lodging costs, maintenance and miscellaneous expenses remain to be tallied. Note: EVJerry here has taken on his on meal expenses. So, in view of the wintry weather prospective, the ?Spirit of DC? PHEV3A EVducational Tour intends to do at least the Lower 48 State Capitals plus Vancouver, Canada. Later on, should financial resources become available, the ?Spirit?s? game to be back and taking on Juneau, Alaska and Honolulu, Hawaii. Aside from postponing a visit with Alaska EAA Members, the ?Spirit of DC?s? goal of meeting up with EAA Members in some 50 separate Chapters in the Lower 48 States and Canada remains in tact. And even visiting new EAA Chapters developing along the way back to Washington, DC, such as the Sun Coast EVA in Central Florida, and prospective ones in New Mexico and Arkansas! The rationale in the first place for PHEV3A remains the same -- the ?Spirit of DC? as a Prius PHEV is first an electric vehicle. The PHEV3A Committee believe PHEVs provide an alternative to using gasoline while it?s gas at nearly $4/gallon, by providing the choice of plugging-in at 60, 70, 80 cents worth of GGE Kilowatts! In brief, it?s about Freedom of Choice! The Spirit of DC PHEV 3 ATour is enabled through the participation of those who routinely contribute uncommon energies and resources, on the PHEV3A Committeelike: ? Upgrading the "Spirit" with CAN Circuit Boards by Chris Ewert from Fox Valley EAA Chris at InfoLaunch.com We are also grateful to the many within the Electric Vehicle Association of Greater Washington, DC (EVADC ) who generously donate materials, expertise, time, and money ? resources critical in keeping The "Spirit of DC" PHEV3A show on the road, since the "Power of DC" on 31 May 2008. And particularly those outside EVADC as well, whose willingness to join in provided synergy and EVnthusiasm to PHEV3A EVducational Tour. Especially important is the synergy from the PHEV3A Committee and the Team Work encountered along the Blue Highways of North America from EAA Members, which is opened to one and all. Your donations of money, time, or materials (batteries; a place to stay for the driver; meals; media attention, electricity; etc.) make all the difference. It's team work for sure. Don?t pass up the opportunity to give progress a jump start ? join The Spirit of DC PHEV3A effort, and be a team player in helping America wake up to the electrifying possibilities!
