[Oeva-list] Help needed to build battery cable

Dan,

It's usually not good to have mixed batteries, but sometimes it's unavoidable when some have to be replaced. Even different ages of the same battery can make it harder to keep them balanced when charging in series.
A really good battery management system can balance them, though, so this is a good test.

Determine how many Amps you are drawing. Lower voltage packs draw higher current, and end up using 4/0 (0000) gauge wire. Higher voltage packs draw less current, and so get by with less, often 2 gauge. Google "wire gauge table" to get a table of wire sizes and the current limits.

You'll need to find a connector that matches the battery post diameter as well as the wire gauge.

I you use crimp connectors, I have a tool that you can borrow. It only takes a few seconds.

Gary

Subject: [Oeva-list] Help needed to build battery cable

I have to swap in a replacement battery. The only battery I
could find that is available locally (and may work) has different
posts that won't work with the copper bar connecters in the car.

Hence, I need to make a 4 inch cable to with an L post connector
on one end and a screw down connector on the other.

Questions:
What type of end connectors do I need? (I have some cable, but
not sure of the size)
Does someone have tools for cutting/crimping the cable and could
help me make the cable?

Thanks,
Dan
