When the first Model T rolled off the assembly line, Henry Ford was asked
what colors were available, to which he famously quipped, "You can get it in any
color you want as long as it is black." A century later, California, the Mother
of all Nanny States, is telling its citizens they can have any color they want
as long as it is not black, or any other dark color, for that matter.
You see, you thoughtless dark car owners are killing the planet because your car
uses too much energy to cool the passengers. So it's light colored cars for the lot of
you.
In a move that will likely get California's consumers in a huff,
impending legislation may soon restrict the paint color options for Golden
State residents looking for their next new vehicle. The specific
colors that are currently on the chopping block are all dark hues, with the
worst offender seemingly the most innocuous color you could think of:
  Black.
What could California possibly have against these colors, you ask?
Apparently, the California Air Resources Board figures that the climate
control systems of dark colored cars need to work harder than their lighter
siblings – especially after sitting in the sun for a few hours. Anyone living
in a hot, sunny climate will tell you that this assumption is accurate, of
course. In fact, legislation already exists for buildings that has proven
successful at reducing the energy consumption of skyscrapers.
So what about a red Corvette? Too dark? How about burgundy, or are we stuck
with pink? And what about visitors to California? Will Grandpa have to pay a sin
tax on his navy blue Cadillac when he visits from Nevada? With all of
California's existing restrictive fuel economy standards on large cars, and now
color restrictions on the cars you can buy, it seems that in California you can
buy any car you want, as long as it is one of these.

Bill
Dupray itemizes for readers,

(1) call me a moron
(2) tell me the news
is fake
(3) strain all logic and reason trying to rationalize the
policy.

I will take door number 3 for $500 or a 10.75 percent retail
sales tax.

Such a delight for me to enjoy an "ah ha!" moment. I now
better understand your sarcasm, Bill Dupray. You are not easily
fooled.

For readers, mostly for me, Bill is a Republican and I am a
Democrat. Nonetheless, we provide ample room for our ante chips upon our poker
table. Personally, I suspect Bill and I are closet Independents; we hold
politicians, on both sides of the aisle, responsible and accountable.

I
enjoy reading Bill's thoughts because he presents rational and reasonable
thinking free of partisan politics. Seems we are the "Gang of Two" here in this
congress of public opinion. I do not always agree with Bill but I do read
carefully and do give thought to his words. I am not one to automatically
dismiss Bill simply because he is a Republican. I would be quite the fool to do
this.

Bill continues, "The lefties will defend silliness to the point of
forfeiting their freedom."

Yes, sir, this is certainly true. Being fair,
I note this behavior from both Republicans and Democrats, but this inane
behavior does seem to be a primary sole claim of Democrats.

This past
presidential election cycle certainly highlighted this shallow thinking on the
part of Democrats. Your 3 items of thought are well proved to be true. Your
first two, name calling and claiming fraud, those two I dismiss right off. Those
are the thinkings of blithering idiots. I do not entertain blithering idiots,
not for a moment.

Number 3, this twisting and turning of logic, this
interests me. This is the thinking of people who can pull the wool over the eyes
of the public, and this type of thinking, most often, causes much harm to our
country. This concerns me, greatly. I fret these logical fallacy people will
harm us all, but more important, will cause harm to our children and future
generations of our children.

I could write for hours about all this
twisted thinking on the part of both Republicans and Democrats. Instead, I will
simply close with a current event example.

Los Angeles county recently
made a new contract with teachers. Democrats jumped up and told the public,
"Look! No pay raises for teachers! We are doing what you want!"

What is
not said is this new contract includes increased benefits, such as expanded
health insurance and increased retirement benefits.

Democrats leap up on
their soapboxes, "See? See! We Democrats have our act together! No pay raises!
Do not fret about those increased benefits, those are not pay raises and costs
will not be incurred for years to come. Vote Democrat! Vote good
thinking!"

Yeah, well, the bill for those increased benefits will come
due when our children are making us grandparents, if not already. Those costs of
increased benefits will drain the pocket books of our children, their children,
right on down the line. This sets up future generations for financial
hardship.

This well exemplifies Bill's "strain all logic and reason
trying to rationalize the policy."

Oh shoot, a ten-TRILLION dollar
national debt, no big deal, we will worry about this in the future. Sure. We
will be old and age addled and our grandchildren will be cussing us.

As
to Bill's concern about loss of freedoms, this is painfully true. Ban black
colored cars for the most stupid of reasons. What is next? Will we ban black
granite counter tops from our kitchens, ban black leather covered furniture, ban
black colored guns?

Are black stealth military aircraft to be
banned?

I like my slinky slutty cleavage diving black dresses and my spit
shined black 6 inch spiked heels. I like my Lady Clairol helped Raven Black
hair. I like our glossy black lacquer '57 Chevy Bel Air show car which wins a
lot of trophies. I like pretending to still be a teenager, dressed in black,
riding in a right fancy black car.

Are my fantasies to be banned
next?

- I realize it is not a hoax. What cracks me up is that when some idiot liberal
in California dreams up an idea like this, the liberals come on a site like this
and feel compelled to (1) call me a moron, (2) tell me the news is fake, or (3)
strain all logic and reason trying to rationalize the policy. You never hear one
of them say, "I am a liberal, and even I think this is an idiotic idea." I have
heard a lot of Republicans propose stupid policies and I am happy to call them
on it. The lefties will defend silliness to the point of forfeiting their
freedom.

Paul
writes, "....solar panels are black in color...."

Correct. Solar panels
are most often mounted upon roofs of homes, whether electric solar panels or
water heating solar panels. Black solar panels absorb solar energy. This heat is
transferred into attics of homes. This heats a house which prompts dwellers to
use more air conditioning. This drives up electricity consumption resulting in
generation of more greenhouse gases.

Politicians are using a logic,
"Black cars use more air conditioning." Black solar panels use more air
conditioning. If black cars are banned, stands to the same idiocy in logic,
black solar panels should be banned, along with black asphalt and black shoes,
oh shoot, we should also ban my hair color, Raven Black, so people will not fry
their brains.

A quick counter is black cars will stay warmer in winter
thus will use heaters less which translates to less gas consumption and less
green house gases.

I would propose we ban black cars from roads during
summer, and ban white cars from roads during winter. This would make sense to
politicians, perfect sense.

Taha says:

Bill!
This story is not a hoax. This is real.

I visited the CARB site, looked
at all the supporting reports from bird brained scientists, the color black is
described, "remains an issue".

This is political code talk for, "black
will be banned". Law will be car paint must reduce solar energy absorption by a
set percentage amount. This is impossible to meet for the color black, and
highly borderline for other dark colors. Black and dark colors will not comply
with this law, those colors cannot be allowed under law.

Here is the
deal. AB32 requires a twenty-five percent reduction in 'green house gases' by
2020 year. However, this Assembly Bill contains incremented requirements. Part
of this is a measured percentage reduction in car emissions within the next two
years, approximately. Banning the color black is a part of this plan. Here in
California, new cars which are black or dark colored, cannot be allowed to be
sold here because of non-compliance with laws "possibly" generated under
Assembly Bill 32.

No viable ideas have emerged so CARB and lackey
scientists are coming up with insane ideas, I mean really stupid
ideas.

Currently passed, auto repair shops are now required by law to
check air pressure in tires on customer cars regardless of the type of service
performed.

Catch is a customer can decline this air pressure check.
Other words, this is law but is truly voluntary on the part of car owners. This
is a law which is not a law. Huh?

Bigger catch is estimate of CO2
reduction through proper tire inflation is 2/10 of 1 percent. This is an
insignificant amount compared to cumulative costs of this
program.

Reduction of emissions through banishment of the color black for
cars, is even less. However, costs will be high. This new type of paint, which
has yet to be successfully formulated, will add $100 to $200 the cost of each
car, perhaps more.

So, California has doubled the car tax and are now
adding "back door" taxes through this tire inflation program and this reflective
paint program. On the average, all of this will add about $500 to $750 in
purchase price of a new car.

Driving prices of cars up will result in
less cars sold and more people being laid off. This, in turn, reduces tax
revenues which, in turn, prompts government to further raise taxes.

With
current economic conditions, people cannot afford higher prices and higher
taxes. As is, here in California, the new car industry is all but dead. This is
true nationwide, as well, but not as severe as in California.

A benefit
is automotive shops are enjoying an increase in business through maintaining and
repairing older used cars. However, this keeps less efficient cars on the road
which defeats the purpose of AB32.

This is an endless cycle of
idiocy.

This "black paint ban" is being claimed to be a hoax. The reason
for this is CARB and politicians are being hammered hard for their idiocy. Tens
of thousands of Californians are screaming and hollering at our politicians, so
much so, most politicians now refuse to answer their telephones and email
servers cannot deal with all the complaint email.

Politicians, select
government people, pushed out a "news leak" this ban of black paint is a hoax to
cover their sorry butts. Public outrage, for many reasons, is so intense,
politicians have no choice but to lie to protect their elected
seats.

Have you looked at how many California politicians are now being
subjected to recall?

This claim banning black paint is a hoax, is a hoax
perpetrated by our state government. People are so angry, politicians are back
pedaling to get out from under this anger.

This hoax is a hoax. This is
very typical tactic of lying thieving politicians.

see this as a government gimmick? If they cared so much about the environment
wouldn't it be more sensible to offer to offer tax incentives on lower carbon
emission cars, I'm sure people would love cheaper cars, in this day and age. The
sad thing is, stories like this make the whole green matter, a harder sell to
the public

like you want all of us to look the same, eat the same things, drive the same
things, etc.. God, spineless people like you disgust me. Anything and everything
that this ever increasingly oppressive government of ours says, you gobble it up
without even a moments thought or concern.
When the day comes that you have
ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHTS OR CHOICES WHATSOEVER BECAUSE YOUR "GOVERNMENT" KNOWS WHAT

Have some perspective. Only having one choice with the Model-T was inconvenient

approach which is not remotely a slippery slope.
