Dave V. at Royal Moore Nissan in Hillsboro: Dave hadn't received anything from Nissan either; he's on the list too! So he called the phone number on the Leaf website: 1 (877) 664-2738. There we learned (and I confirmed that I was registered) that we who have preregistered would hear from Nissan by 4/19. At that time we would be invited to go to a special new website after midnight 4/19 (i.e., 4/20) and plunk our $99 bucks down (presumably via credit card - refundable). There will be no need for us to contact a dealer at that time. In fact, we won't have to contact a dealer until we actually place our order later this summer. Only at that time do we choose our preferred dealer, pick out options (SV or SL trim package), color, financing, Lease vs. buy, etc. If I don't hear from Nissan by the 19th I'm to call that number again, or go to the "Live Chat" section of the Leaf website. Delivery is still scheduled to start in December (of 2010!). I'm told by my Volt mole that GM hopes to steal Leaf's thunder by releasing a few in November. I also learned that there have been nearly 100,000 of us preregistered so far. A related question: Is there anything afoot with our Oregon legislature to increase Oregon's EV subsidy from the current $1,500, to match California's $5,000? How about Washington? It's amazing how many WA Nissan dealers have NO idea what I'm talking about! I've called dealers from Longview to Bellevue and no one knows what Washington's doing. However, the Washington legislature is considering taxing new EV sales $100 to make up for lost gas-tax revenues! This will hurt golfers and NEV owners worse than us but it shows how shortsighted they are. He has offered to host an OEVA meeting at the Tonkin Nissan dealership in Wilsonville. I advised him we would need access to 240 power as well as 120. They will provide refreshments. Add one more Leaf to the list being sold. West Hills Collision Center just signed up for a Leaf for use as a loaner car for when vehicles are being repaired. I could not do this before with the trucks. However with the battery technology improvements that changes everything. So when the Leaf is delivered if you need collision work you can drive an EV. I am hoping we can sway more ICE drivers to consider EVs. Electronic Design is sponsoring an online seminar on power electronics. At least a few sessions should be of interest to us techy types: Batteries, Smart Grid, Controlling Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors, Use link to register: http://bit.ly/9KKZC6 Don Tute of ED says this about the Sychronous Motors session: "One Powerful Day?s next session will deal with controlling permanent magnet synchronous motors. This is already a big deal with Asian white-goods manufacturers, which means that ultimately PM motors will have global impact. The promotional write-up for this session says, ?As the cost of processor based motor control continues to drop, many applications can now affordably take advantage of the many benefits afforded by PMSM topologies, such as increased efficiency and smoother operation. This session covers the basic operation of PMSMs, and how they can be controlled using Field Oriented Control (FOC) with both sensored and sensor-less techniques. IPM motors are also presented, with a discussion on how their saliency affects sensor-less FOC.? This is the first time I?ve seen field oriented control mentioned in the same paragraph as permanent magnet motors, so this should an interesting talk. The presenter will be International Rectifier?s Poul Erik Dokkedal." Message-ID: Howdy list - I'm in the process of buying a used EV, but the opportunity has knocked a few months in advance of my first time home purchase (with inevitable garage). So since I'm still an apartment dweller for the time being, I'm on the hunt for a garage in the 'hood. I've only managed to find unpowered garages for rent so far, and 1 powered garage that was about twice the garage I needed and, not surprisingly, twice the price I wanted to pay. I can charge at work and have a short commute, so I'm considering going with an unpowered garage and plugging in during the day - but this is less than ideal. Just wanted to reach out to see if anyone had any hot tips or a better idea before I make any moves. Anyone out there been in the same boat? cheers -j -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Explore questions like "is it more important to have charging stations at work places, or at park & ride locations" and "should there be wheelchair accessible parking spots with access to charging"... ** Dear EV Driver, Puget Sound Regional Council and the Washington State Department of Commerce are working to develop model regulations and guidance for local governments for EV charging infrastructure. The purpose of this effort in Washington is to encourage the transition to electric vehicle use and to expedite the establishment of a convenient, cost-effective, electric vehicle infrastructure that such a transition necessitates. As part of this work, Plug in America has prepared a survey to gather information from experienced EV drivers and owners, which is where you come in. We're asking you to give us a short amount of your time by taking an online survey. Here is the link to the survey: www.pluginamerica.org/surveys/index.php?sid=95866&lang=en A few points about the survey: The focus of the questions is your personal experience with charging infrastructure. Survey answers are kept anonymous and only summary information will be utilized. Note that we are most interested in any additional thoughts or points you feel are important regarding charging infrastructure and we encourage you to write them out in the text boxes provided. Thank you for helping to shape the EV future. Dan Davids Plug In America -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... The pass is printed with "EV charging only," so don't try to use it in a non-EV Spot and make sure you are plugged in. New signage was recently installed to make it clear that these spots are for EVs only. So I don't think email is useful for anyone other than its original recipient. I asked another person at work--he signed up in early December. I think I signed up during the tour (late December) if I wasn't already on the list. Message-ID: <9662F248D13E8C45B097A77F005E972965C6F33D@orsmsx503.amr.corp.intel.com> I'm wondering if a lot of us Oregon (and other eligible area) Nissan Leaf folks signed up for the DOE study when we reserved our Leaf. It was an extra set of questions that you started once the Leaf reservation was completed. One question was something like "do you have two adjacent empty breaker slots in your electric panel?" Other questions centered around the panel's location relative to your garage. Since DOE study participants will get a free charger and installation, we would like everyone that is eligible (and doesn't mind your every driving and charging move to be tracked and added to their database) to be able to enroll. The results will help understand the impact of massive numbers of EV's on the grid. Not only will this save early adopters some $ in the short term, making charging smarter will help *lower* electricity costs by improving current infrastructure utilization rates. (Dumb charging during peak load times will *increase* electric rates by requiring more expensive, inefficient, and underutilized peak generation equipment). And we certainly don't want EV's to be singled out for unreasonable constraints on charging enforced by charging stations or the car. So getting this data for utilities and regulators is important. It also enables smarter charging firmware in the cars that implement *our* personal charging preferences (eg, use cheap rates, renewables whenever possible) vs one-size-fits-all policies of utilities, charging stations manufacturers, or governments. Please forward responses to me (rather than the entire list). I'll post a summary and bring this to Nissan's attention if Leaf folks aren't able to apply to the study using their website. It is a converted 1992 4dr Acura. The conversion is exceptionally clean and professionally done. Right now it has lithium batteries with Blacksheep BMS boards w/charger. I can sell it complete or if someone wants it with the used batteries and charger that is possible also. My motivation is I have another electric and don't need two. Can you pass this around the club so I might get a sale. The car is near Battle Ground stored in warehouse. Thank you, Dave Rutan 360-513-5465 "Dave Rutan" I then querried Dave on his asking price and this was his response: $10,000 without batt & charger. $15,000 ready to go. -- John P. I'd like to find out what the criteria are and, more importantly, to whom I can appeal my case. Any ideas anyone? I'm guessing they didn't like my ZIP code or my answer(s) to the question(s) in the Leaf reservation process.
