[Oeva-list] Leaf 1 year service (Eric Geisler)

With the THINK electrics, only a handful of customers have been offered
anything like a battery health checkup.

What makes matters this a concern is the fact that our battery packs had
literally sat on shelves or in unmoving cars for some 2 years each.

While most of us are having good times (or luck?) with our cars, others
haven't been so lucky.

And while a few folks like me are taking meticulous measurements of the
Charge and Range history, doing so just begs the question:

Given that in 6 months of use the most I've been able to put
into my pack is 19kwh or so (3%SOC showing) and given that the pack is rated
for 23kwh, how can I tell whether or not my pack is already at End of Life
(EOL)?

We presume that when the SOC% gets near zero that it really represents
something like 20% remaining, i.e. 4.6kwh or so.and that would be consistent
with my pack being good. Alternatively, perhaps the charger cuts out at
0.1v under the voltage where the cells are rated at---ie. there's likely
some unused capacity there. But with these packs being effectively 'black
boxes' to us, how are we to know if our pack is prematurely at EOL?

You got a much better deal than I did.

To add insult to injury, they didn't give me a battery report. They said
that Nissan only pays them for the battery report if it is done between
months 9 and 15. My car is more than 15 months old, but my mileage only
14,950.

I am not concerned with my battery health, but considering the bad PR that
Nissan has gotten for their battery degradation, it seems like they should
offer battery check-up to everyone.

I don't know if this really is a corporate policy, or just one dealership's
ignorance.

Pat,

I paid $21.95 at Royal Moore for my 1-year inspection. They inspected the
car and batteries and rotated the tires. I got 4 stars on the battery, and
I try to avoid 100% charging.

Cheers,

Eric

Myles is too modest to tell you he maintains the Milburn Light Electric

My understanding is that it was a Milburn...their Secret Service also drove
a Milburn because Wilson didn't want to hear the loud sons of a gas car
near him.

Turns out the First Lady drove an electric car. No, not Michelle,
Laura, Hillary or Barbara. Or Nancy... or Rosalyn.. or Lady Bird... or
Jacqueline...

I am at Beaverton Nissan for my car's 1 year / 15000 mile service. They had
not heard about the low speed brake update, but he looked it up and found
it. It has been out since October but I seem to be the first person to have
it done here. Did any of you get this done here?

Also, they said the 15000 mile service is $200. How much did you pay to
have this done?

Pat,

Did they break down what the $200 covers? The battery inspection should be
free. The only things they should need to do is rotate the tires, maybe
change the cabin air filter and possibly flush the brake fluid (they talk
about this on the mynissanleaf.com forum a fair bit).

I'm a fair bit away from my 1 year checkup, but I'm curious to see what
other people paid as well.

Sounds to me as if you are paying for what it cost the shop to send the one
mechanic back to Nissan central for training to do the service. Nice work if
you can get it. Places like Midas and Mr. Muffler will do a brake flush for
much less than $200. I think you get pads and and a flush for that much,
not rotors.

Pat, shop other places - i recall most got 1 year service for free.
there is nothing they flush - just inspect and change air filter. plus free
battery test.
