[Oeva-list] For Patrick; Why EV's work well in Oregon

Hi Patrick,

I thought this link may help your debate. Here is a nice infographic for
Oregon's electricity sources broken out by utility. It segments it by
source: Average coal use is 50% in U.S, but only 30% in the Northwest.

A student working in the power industry forwarded me this link after an
annoying debate at PSU about coal power to recharge EV's.
http://www.oregon.gov/ENERGY/Pages/Oregons_Electric_Power_Mix.aspx

http://portlandwiki.org/Coal_Fired_Power_in_Oregon
I also have wind industry reports from a PSU student in the Wind industry.
Oregon ranked high on wind power.

These debates get so sensationalized. To me, some do not realize we can't
get to the big steps without taking smaller ones first.

I miss the OEVA meetings. Hope to see you all this summer.

Hope this helps,

Brad

It looks like statewide Oregon is 36% coal. PGE cleaned up their mix since
I contracted with them, by adding the Port Westward natural gas plant and
some wind farms, dropping coal to 1/3 of their mix. However, Pacific Power
is still 2/3 coal.

Because we have mild weather, not too extreme. Not much need to run the
heat or A/C constantly.
