A reading by Bay Area poets *Andrew Joron*, *Joseph Noble*, and *Brian
Lucas* -- followed by a concert by /*Cloud Shepherd*/, featuring Andrew
on theremin and waterphone, Joseph on wind instruments and percussion,
Brian on bass, tapes and electronics, joined by *Mark Pino* on "cloud
kit" percussion.

/*Cloud Shepherd*/ was formed to explore improvised music, but in a more
"ambient" setting reflecting their combined interests in spontaneous
composition, drone-based music, and certain 20th Century classical and
jazz composers. For more information about the band and their
recordings, and to listen or download, go to

Andrew Joron* is author of /Trance Archive: New and Selected Poems/ from
City Lights Books. He also recently translated the German fantasy writer
Paul Scheerbart's /The Perpetual Motion Machine/, available from
Wakefield Press. His work will be included in the new edition of the
/Norton Anthology of Postmodern Poetry/, edited by Paul Hoover, and his
essay "The Theremin in My Life" appears in issue 14 of the online
magazine /Evening Will Come/. He lives in Berkeley, California.

Six poems from *Joseph Noble*'s series /between/ are currently included
in the exhibit "Social Behavior Lab" at the San Francisco Exploratorium,
and other poems will be published in forthcoming issues of /OR/ and
/Hambone/. His book /An Ives Set/ was published by lyric& Press. Noble
has studied and played flutes and saxophones for 35 years, performing in
various jazz, classical, and rock ensembles in both the New York and San
Francisco Bay areas.

*Brian Lucas* has played and/or recorded with Mirza, Caroliner,
Kawaguchi Masami's New Rock Syndicate, Big City Orchestra, Failure Cock,
and James Bloodbeard. His books of poetry include /Circles Matter/
(BlazeVox), /Tabu/ (Yen Agat), /Telepathic Bones/ (Berkeley
Neo-Baroque), and /Light House/ (Meeting Eyes Bindery). His art work has
been featured in SF Bay Area venues and on album covers from labels such
as Darla, Ba Da Bing!, and Ruralfaune.

*Mark Pino* began playing drums at the age of eleven. During his high
school years he played in basement jam bands and punk rock bands. He has
studied trap set drumming with Dawn Richardson and Richie Goldberg,
music theory with Herbie Lewis, and ethnomusicology with Richard Kaplan.
Within the group */Cloud Shepherd/*, he plays the Cloud Kit, a
percussive assemblage of his own devising.
