KBOO and Ko-Falen Cultural Center present an evening of Malian live
music, film, arts and crafts, and storytelling, recounting Africa's 13th
century epic tale of Sundjata Keita, creator of the great empire of Mali.

Setting the stage for the film /Keita: Heritage of the Griots/, Malian
artist, author, and storyteller Baba Wagué Diakité will give the
background of the Empire of Mali, and the role ofWest Africa's oral
historians, known as griots.

/Keita: Heritage of the Griots/ blends modern and ancient events with
magical realism, mythology, and history, continuing the griots' role of
relating the history of this kingdom and its heroes. Directed by Dani
Kouyate, the film stars his father, Malian griot and actor Sotigui Kouyate .

The evening, which will also include live kora music by Will Dudley, and
Malian crafts for sale, is a benefit for KBOO and Ko-Falen Cultural
Center.  In Bambara, the word Ko-Falen means gift-exchange. Ko-Falen
Cultural Center seeks to promote the cultural, artistic and educational
exchanges between the people of the United States and Mali through art
workshops, dance, music and ceremony, and also provides youth arts
education and support to the Malian community.
