Dear Friends,
It's January 29th -- Gene's birthday.

Born in 1928, Gene would have turned 84 today. As has been my practice 
since his passing (2007), I'm sending some of his work your way. This 
year I've typed up two poems by way of remembrance, each attached in a 
separate file.
Whenever Gene would send me a poem in typescript, he'd type his name in 
all small case letters, so I've maintained that tradition.

This year I chose an older poem from 1972 and a later poem, which 
appeared in The Curvature of the Earth.

I'm also attaching a photo of Gene at a reading he and I gave some years 
back at Stefi Weisburd's home.

Thanks, of course, to Gene for a lifetime of practicing poetry from its 
deepest roots. I'm glad there's a group of folks, like you, who 
appreciate his gifts.
