An elegant name for this elegant japanese maple. First certain records are from Japan in 1938 but Butterfly probably developed prior to this. Leaves vary from entirely pale green, through creamy-yellow edged, to fully cream-white. Pinkish tinges are often found on the new spring growth as illustrated. Grows at a moderate rate to about 20'. Full sun or partial shade is fine. Excellent for containers. Good companion plant in a border. Zones: USDA 6; Sunset 2-10, 12, 14-24, Alaska-3.
