Our favorite maple, although not easy to grow. That is, it grows quite well, but achieving the optimum leaf coloration is not easy. Probably shows best growth on very poor soil or in a container. Otherwise, leaf color can be more green than variegated.
Higasayama has one of the more profuse and ornamental flowers of the japanese maples. Can reach 25', but easily kept at any size in a container. Developed in Japan before 1901. Unique.  Zones: USDA 6; Sunset 2-10, 12, 14-24, Alaska-3.
