The Finger Painted Lady japanese maple has pale green leaves with the 5 lobes edged in red.  The appearance, particularly as the leaves droop downward as they unfold in spring is of fingernail paint drying. This is a rather small, upright, spreading maple eventually to about 9'.  Although the fresh spring coloration is the most striking, this maple has all year interest with orange fall color. Developed in Japan before 1882. Zones: USDA 4-9; Sunset 2b-6, 14-17, Alaska-3.
