An eclectic shrub with an apt name.  Basic black until the startling yellow flowers appear in spring.  Orange berries can follow.  Architectural structure can be enhanced by minimal pruning.  Slow growth to 8' but can easily be maintained at any size. Adapts well to pot culture or bonsai.  Has survived Portland temperatures below 10 degrees, when planted in the ground.  Potted plants should be protected when temperature falls into the lower 20's.
