A Call To Gut

A Digestive Poem

This bit of extemporaneous doggerel was penned while recovering from an intestinal infection. Antibiotics had decimated my gut flora, and I was endeavoring to rally the survivors to reproduce and fight the infection.

To all you inside
To all you down below
To all who swim in darkness' tide
Where no lights of heaven glow
This I command:
In the coal-pit
In the slumbering deep
In the chambers of spit
In the world without sleep
This I command:
This night is your world
This long skyless dark
"Your flag is unfurled!"
Your King cries. Hark:
"This is my command:
