Position Announcement: Network Administrator

Description

The Network Administrator is responsible for the administration and maintenance of a TCP/IP network currently comprising three Linux servers and 130 Windows workstations. 70 of the workstations are running Windows 2000 Professional, the remainder are running Win9x. This internal network connects to the King County WAN, and thence to the Internet.

The Network Administrator also provides user support to 90 attorneys and 40 support staff who use the Windows workstations. Primary applications are legal research on the Web, word processing, email, and legal case management (database).

Requirements

Demonstrated proficiency in the installation and maintenance of Linux servers. Competent to administer Samba, Apache, MySQL, and Postfix. Sufficiently comfortable with MySQL to perform ad-hoc queries of the case management database in support of legal staff.

Demonstrated proficiency in the installation and maintenance of Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows 2000. Competent to provide user support for Netscape Communicator, Microsoft Internet Explorer, multiple versions of both Corel WordPerfect and Microsoft Word, and the Eudora email client.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Desirable Qualifications

Significant experience with the Debian GNU/Linux distribution. Experience with WordPerfect 8 for Linux.

Experience with Paradox 4.x for DOS and fluency in PAL. Experience with WordPerfect 5.1+ for DOS.

Capable of maintaining both the internal web site and the www.defender.org web site, which is externally hosted. Fluency in both HTML and a suitable CGI language is desired.

Competent to do elementary diagnosis and repair of Intel x86-based PCs.

Salary: Competitive, depends on qualifications and experience.
