Summary and Conclusions

We produced a game that surpassed the 1977 PDP-12 version, with roughly one-third the programming effort, with orders of magnitude more simulation accuracy, and with much greater flexibility. Although speed suffered on the 166 MHz Pentium system on which the measurements were taken, it is reasonable to assume that the currently available 1GHz CPUs would easily outperform the PDP-12. However, the growing demand for software features and complexity seems to have far outstripped the productivity gains enabled by modern software tools.
