The State of Oregon has 36 counties. They go from the smallest in area (Multnomah) to the largest (Harney). This web page will list the county name, then the county seat, the population in 1999, and the area.
The populations listed here are what the state said the populations was as of July 1, 1999. This may be off some as no count was made. The US population count for 2000 will be posted soon. This list goes from the county that has the largest population to the smallest.

In most of Eastern Oregon the population per square mile is small. Most of the population in Oregon is within about 45 miles each side of Interstate 5 or in about 25 miles both side of highway 97 that goes between Washington and California in eastern Oregon..
