FADED PRINTS RESTORATION

by Ted Peterson
Most people will come across a print that is almost faded out that they would like to keep. They need a way to bring back the print.
One of our camera club students gave us the following way and we made a test and it worked.
It is a bleach that then is following by redevelopment. The bleach that he had is as follows.
1st solution
5 grams Potassium Permanganate.
1 liter of water.
2nd solution
1 liter of water.
75 grams Sodium Chloride.
16 cc Sulfuric acid.CP.
YOU HAVE TO MIX EACH BATCH IN ORDER GIVEN. If you mix them in any other order you WILL have trouble. You use equal parts to make the solution to work with.
After bleaching the print wash it GOOD because you have to remove all the bleach from the print. Then stick it in a 1% solution of sodium bisulfite. Then wash and redeveloped in your regular developer. Wash and fix it like you do with a new print.
Try it on a print that you may not worry if some thing goes wrong. You will need to set your own time in the bleach, etc.
