HOW TO CHANGE FILTER PACK with NEGATIVE PRINTING |
by Ted Peterson
|
This article will let you know the correct filter to add or subtract when you are printing color negatives. You will need to print a test strip to see what colors are wrong in the pack that you have.
It is better to subtract a filter than to add a filter. When you add a filter you have another layer between the negative and the printing surface. If adding you may have to add some time to your printing and also there is one other place that a dust spot can be and then show on the print.
If the print is too Yellow subtract both Magenta and Cyan.
If the print is too Blue subtract yellow.
If the print is too Magenta subtract both Yellow and Cyan.
If the print is too Red subtract Cyan.
If the print is too Green subtract Magenta.
If the print is too Cyan subtract both Yellow and Magenta.
|
If you need to add a filter add the following.
If the print is too Yellow add Yellow.
If the print is too Blue add both Magenta and Cyan.
If the print is too Magenta add Magenta.
If the print is too Red add both Yellow and Magenta.
If the print is too Green add both Yellow and Cyan.
If the print is too Cyan add Cyan.
|
If you are printing from a slide you will add the color listed above for subtracting. If you want to subtract you use the color listed above for adding. Remember, in printing color from slides you will NOT use as large of a filter that you use for negative. A 10 point change in slides will change the color balance but in a negative you will need a 25 point to change the color the same amount.
