OREGON LIGHTHOUSES.

by Ted Peterson
Along Oregon coast the U.S. Coast Guard has or had in the past, ten lighthouses. Most of them no longer work as they have been replaced by unman equiptment on the coast or at sea.
Al except one are set up as parks and any person can go there and take some good pictures. Cleft of the Rock Lighthouse is privately owned and is not open to the public. You can not get to the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse because it is off the coast in the ocean. The Coast Guard had a time getting there and some times the crew could not get off or on for weeks at a time.
At the present time there are 10 lighthouses in Oregon. They are:
Cape Arago Lighthouse - Coos Bay.
Cape Blanco Lighthouse - Port Orford.
Cape Meares Lighthouse - Tillamook.
Cleft of the Rock Lighthouse - Yachats (see above).
Coquille River Lighthouse - Bandon.
Heceta Hear Lighthouse - Florence.
Tillamook Rock Lighthouse - Cannon Beach (see above).
Umpqua River Lighthouse - Reedsport.
Yaquina Bay Lighthouse - Newport.
Yaquina Head Lighthouse - Newport.
You may notice that the first six and the eighth lighthouse are in Southern Oregon and the others are in the center of the coast.
You are able to drive almost to all the sites and if the weather is good can get a lot of good pictures.
