The Chatka & Curla

Paga Tavern, and environs

Only a little is happening here yet, though you can look at the stuff below the chain to see the work in progress.

This page will tell about the VR environment of the Gor area on FictionMuck. So far it's only a crude overview, but one that's not completely without merit.

Do you want to go back to the main menu now?

The Tavern

When a person enters the Chatka & Curla tavern, or looks around the room, they will see the room's description, which looks something like this:

The Chatka and Curla Tavern The Chatka & Curla paga tavern is decorated in the fashion of the Wagon Peoples, with souveniers on the walls. Round tables make a rough semicircle around a sand covered stage, and against the far wall is a large fireplace flanked by shelves of goblets and bottles and assorted impedimenta. The room is lit by large hanging oil lamps and in the daytime by some skylights which are currently well lit by the afternoon sun. Opposite the stage are several small curtained openings into alcoves, and in back a small door goes into the service areas; at the front of the tavern, of course, a wide curtained opening leads to the foyer (you can see Aradne there now). Patrons: Eirik, Lux and Wyvern Slaves: autumn, maia and rahn Stuff: the bulletin board and the menu Exits: Out to the foyer, Back to the hallway, alcoves One through Four.

As you can see, this is all pretty self-explanatory. (You can read some basics about mucks if it isn't.) Anything listed there can be looked at, as can several things that aren't obvious.

For example, looking at the menu would let a person see what kind of food and drink is offered at the Chatka & Curla. Looking at the bulletin board would show a list of the messages that players have left for each other; these may be read.

Looking at another player will show you the description that they have written of themselves, of course! That's your host, Wyvern, in the blue tunic on the main page; you can judge for yourself how accurate his description is when you see him at the tavern.

For those of you who aren't new to mucks, the Chatka & Curla has quite a lot of MPI used in its descriptions – just about everything is interesting to look at, many things have random elements in their descriptions, and there are rooms that change in realtime. (Look at the description above and you'll see the skylights mentioned. They change. There's also an outdoor time function that keeps the streets synchronized with realtime.) There is a map floor, of course, and I have put equally interesting decorations on the walls – you'll notice them from time to time.

[Logical map schematic] The logical map at left shows the functional layout of the tavern. These are the virtual rooms themselves; you're welcome to interpret the physical layout any way you like!

Needless to say, the four alcoves opening off the main room are also individually decorated – and one is left plain as a challenge to you Goreans with aesthetic urges! Come, show me what a warrior can do! *grin* The other three are styled after a Slaver's tent, a cave, and the Plains of Turia. I've put in everything but the girl...and I'm sure Gorean men can find kajirae enough.

The other rooms of the tavern are fairly straightforward and generally less elaborate; most visitors will come in through the foyer, which is where we hang an inspirational quote of the day (one can also go upstairs, to find Wyvern's bedroom and the bunkroom where he tosses drunks who fall asleep at the table). The back hallway leads out into an alley behind the tavern and has a stairway down to the kennels in the basement.

The Outdoors

The area around the Chatka & Curla is a city, a built-up area of the Sardar Fairgrounds. (Yes, most of the fairs are held in transient facilities like tents, put up for the busy season – those areas haven't been created on the muck yet, however.) Visitors and residents can wander about and explore; while the hours of the day progress in realtime, the weather is always lovely.

A player who travels to Gor via the Nexus lands in Central Square, the appropriately named center of the outdoor area. This is an open space among buildings with a fountain in the middle and streets radiating out in several directions. The Chatka & Curla paga tavern is here, on one of the corners, while across the street can be found the public bulletin boards. People who spend a few minutes in the square will find that it is a busy place, even if they are alone!

East and west runs Main Street; to the west of the square can be found the Broken Sword Inn, containing some of the best apartments in the area. (Okay, so it's currently the only apartment house in the area, too.)

To the south is the slaving district, with Akbar's Slave Pens and the shop of Eirik the Metal Worker, who manufactures many interesting toys for masters to use upon their slaves.

The public baths were under construction; they are missing in action along with the contractor...so they probably won't be open for business soon. I'm also considering making an arena with programs for actual combat (remember the gladatorial games in Assassin of Gor? Players could fight or watch as it pleased them).
