News flash: John Norman will be appearing at the I-Con science fiction convention March 27-29. The kajira michelle who posts on alt.books.gor also plans to attend; she may have a report on her site.
(18 Feb) Added the Golfers of Gor parody by Dean Malandris to the humor collection and some Imaginative Sex reviews to the comments list.
(15 Feb) There's a logical map of the Chatka & Curla tavern on the
appropriate page now (see at right). At some
point in the future I plan to draw a similar map for the entire Gor area on
FictionMuck.
(11 Feb) I've added a link to the map of Gor by Markus Harris...and, zounds, it seems everyone is doing a map! There is a game map on one site and a map on the #Tahari-Oasis page; who's next?
(6 Jan) Marcus of Ar has put up a Gor Magazine page of his own, with the blessing of the publisher. Please drop by and vote yes or no on subscriptions. (Hopefully yes!)
(5 Dec) The first Vision Entertainment Press Release is out! The upcoming Gor magazine should appear early in 1998 from Vision Entertainment.
(1 Dec) Added the Kajira doll
article to the humorous writings list; hopefully it will attract more
feedback than Poseurs of Gor did. (19
Dec) The Kajira
doll article has been duplicated on Pat Powers' site.
(4 Dec) I've also added the Camile
Paglia & John Norman: Birds of a Feather? article to the site.
(12 Nov 97) While I was at OryCon 19 this previous weekend my photo was taken while I was in costume--more or less in Gorean costume in fact. It'll appear on the site somewhere when I trim it down a bit; it's a little large both in size and bytes right now. I've got a John Norman thumbnail now, too; it'll appear under similar conditions. :-)
(2 Nov 97) I've added a rumors page to the site. It seemed about time. :-)
(9 Oct 97) I've added a photograph of the author to the John Norman biography page, thanks to Tanos (who provided it) and kajira hill (who had it on her site). 22 Oct 97 Well, I finall figured out what the problem was; it turns out that the graphic wasn't really an ordinary JPEG and QuickTime was required to view it. So instead of having it here, I've written a pointer to kajira hill's copy. :-( At least it works now. The thumbnail is nearly as good and that is here.
(15 Oct 97) The problem's been solved for a while now and I actually have the graphic on-site; this is just a note to say that, yes, I've noticed my fix. The news may be considered updated now. :-)
NEWS FLASH! There's a proposal on alt.config to establish an alt.fan.gor newsgroup let's all follow this closely and support it as much as seems practical. It would be a very nice thing to have a newsgroup to augment the current websites and IRC channels; my metaphorical hat is off to Tanos@geocities for suggesting it.
It's final the alt.books.gor newsgroup has been established, as of 11 August 1997. *grin* I'm looking forward to seeing the first post to come across my newsreader.
(16 Aug 97) As an aside, Tanos also has a alt.books.gor website on GeoCities.
(22 July)I'd hoped to avoid mentioning this at all in the hopes that it would be fixed in short order but I haven't found the source of the problem. For technical reasons, a certain few descriptions do not work inside the Chatka & Curla tavern itself, most notably the menu and the alcove descriptions. It'll be fixed...when it's fixed.
Those who are interested in the technical side, the {&arg} command is always returning a null string inside rooms within the C&C's parent. It shouldn't be happening, but it is; I've already tried swapping out the parent rooms without effect, and I'll try @archive duplication when I have time to play around.
(1 July) I finally gave in and added a hit counter...I got tired of not knowing if I was talking to myself on this page. *grin* As a side effect, you get to know too. Hopefully the numbers will go up fairly quickly; if not there will be interesting side effects. Watch for my head to begin rotating counterclockwise and for me to set fire to my hair.
(18 June) At last, at last, it's back at last! FictionMuck has reopened again this evening after three weeks of floating in limbo; it's only a little the worse for wear and as busy as it usually is. Hooray!
Also today, I've added a guestbook to the page it's a nice touch, and I hope that it will make sending feedback easier. Certainly it's better than email for public comments! You can find it down at the bottom of the main Chatka & Curla page.
(9 June) I'm told that the hacker's target was a muck on adobe.chaco.com called Senshi Academy; I'm not on that muck nor am I familiar with it (although apparently it's based on the Sailor Moon series), but I gather that Senshi Academy itself is pretty much a write off it seems that the responsible idiot overwrote it to make room for Duke Nukum 3D for the Macintosh. (And my condolances go out to the players there and to Tenchi@RanmaMuck, the head wiz.) For a silver lining, though, apparently everything on the other mucks is intact, as are the websites on the system we just can't get to them because the computer is down. However, ElseMuck is back up at talon.org 9990 for the duration. In due time the computer will be put back in order or a replacement found, and we'll be in business again. Until then, we can only wait...
(2 June) Well, here we go again! Due to some unspecified 'hacker action' the whole darned server is down indefinitely. :-( The muck, the FictionMuck website, everything. When I have more information on this I'll let you all know what I've turned up...
(~27 May) Okay, I'm fixed now, although it was required that my character be recycled and recreated. Once I put the backed up data back onto the Wyvern character everything will be fine.
(24 May) The wizards think this might have been the result of a disk crash or other error, something which caused the muck to interpret my character as read-only. So there might not be anyone behind this at all, only dumb luck! In either case, we are probably close to a solution.
(22 May) There is, sadly to say, at least one person on FictionMuck who not only objects to the Gor area but does not have the courage to discuss this objection openly. Rather than debate the subject, I have been the victim of an admittedly fairly clever and subtle hack several programs have been locked against me, including lsedit (a text editor) and write (which allows messages to be put on bulletin boards). It's only a nuisance, and I expect the problems to be fixed soon, but it's still disappointing to see that there are people around who have no better way to express their displeasure than to dump on others this way.
When more information is available, I'll update this message.
