Classic Computer Web Site Summary
There are currently many internet web sites available that serve as
virtual computer museums, with a short description of many machines, as
well as sites that are dedicated to a particular machine. This site has a
somewhat different focus. The intent of this classic computer web site is
to provide a good deal of information on a few of the popular 8 bit and 16
bit computers, and to provide the reader with enough information to
compare machines, get a newly acquired machine up and running, and to
locate more detailed information or software easily. This site provides
some basic information of interest, such as the date the machine was
introduced, the processor and memory included, and the original price
range. It also has more detailed technical information including pin-outs
for all connectors, making it easy for the reader to connect their
machine. Other information includes bugs, compatibility, and other
information which is not as quantitative, but which is still important to
the reader. There is also a starter software section which allows someone
which has just acquired a machine, but who is not fortunate enough to have
any accessories or software packages, to either transfer software or to
key in a small program that lets them start downloading bigger and better
programs. Finally, there is a resource section for each computer that
includes links to more technical information, frequently asked questions,
and other internet resources such as web pages, mail lists, and ftp sites.
