Volume 12: Winter 2007
Here I (still) am in Corvallis, Oregon.
Quiet year? It’s been more than a quiet year, it’s been practically comatose. Replaying it in my mind, there are only two things I recall worthy of note.
The first was a friend’s visit in January. We had fun, but the visit ended early when my pulse suddenly took a 20 beat per minute jump. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in the past few years, it’s that when I get sick I need a quiet, stable environment. So I unhappily arranged other accommodations for my guest. He took the change gracefully, and we’re still friends. Over the course of the next few months my pulse returned to more or less normal. No one has any idea why this happened, but my CF docs weren’t too worried. (When my doctor suggested a simple and free treatment, I responded without thinking, noting the treatment’s similarity to a placebo. It was an amusing moment of “Okay, I know what you just suggested, and you know I know, but we’ll be polite and say nothing of it.”.)
The other interesting thing (to me, at least) is that a gaming friend invited me to join a Dungeons & Dragons campaign he was starting. I’d played D&D in high school, but not since then. Would I still like it? The answer is “yes”. Our little team of adventurers is almost through its third adventure, and I’m having a grand time. In a display of nerdery, as we play I chronicle the adventure in almost real-time on a wiki. I’ve spent more time than you might expect creating images of the group’s characters. All in all, it’s been a lot of fun. I do try to restrain myself from nattering on about it too much to friends, though.
Other than that, I’ve done a bunch of cat- and dog- and house- and horse- and sheep- and yurt-sitting. Didn’t travel except to Portland, didn’t fall in love, didn’t sit in on any classes at the local university. Alas, I have become boring.
