[pen & knife]

A LITTLE DIGRESSION

I don't lose things. I like to know where all my things are, all the time, and it bothers me when I can't find things. It's gotten to the point where Goat has asked me where his keys are. I just notice that kind of thing. I refer to it as being a "memory trace". Some people would call it "anal retentive". But at least I can almost always find my things.

The disadvantage to being a memory trace is that when I lose something, it's very frustrating. Pens are the worst. They're small, they're cheap - who cares? Buy a new one. But that's not the point. The point is that I should know where it is! It's not the pen, it's my failure to keep track of it.

So take this feeling, and add to it the dimension of something with sentimental value, something that actually means something... that's how I felt.
