The Internet is a wonderful place for finding long-lost things. Here are a few I seek.
A short animation set to a piece of orchestral music, shown on WNET (public TV, channel 13 in NYC) in the late ’70s or early ’80s. The animation had no theme, setting, characters, or plot; instead, it animated the score of the piece being played. Aspects of the animated score such as color, shape, and perspective reflected the qualities of the music in real time, building to a stirring climax. I haven’t seen the animation since then, and know nothing about it other than (a) I’d recognize it if I saw it again, (b) it seemed to go on for a long time (6-10 minutes?), but that might have been because I was so fascinated with it, and (c) I don’t think it was part of a regularly scheduled program.
In autumn of 1995, back when Netscape 3.0’s “What’s Cool?” feature still offered interesting links, I ran across a page that was nothing more than a dithered black & white image of a curled leaf centered on a pure white background. Its spare beauty was striking at a time when everyone else, myself included, was discovering the ability to add (usually illegible) background images to pages. Does anyone remember this page? Who made it? Is it still available somewhere?
