A rook is a castle. Maybe this first part refers to a secret that a thief stole and wrote in a book. Then he hid this book in the nook of a castle," she said to a rather odd looking dwarf (SunStorm). "As for the rest of it, I haven't a clue. I don't know enough about you to guess," she said walking over to the 'dwarf'. "Oh, excuse me. I am not sure of the customs of this land...I am called Helen the Grey. I am looking for a man called 'Luthor' and one called 'Murell'. Have any of you heard of these men?" she asked no one in particular. 'A parliment of rooks' referrs to their odd tendancy to cover a field with rooks, all of which listen to one who 'talks' to them... after which they either all leave the field.. or fall upon the speaking rook, killing it before they leave. An odd habit for birds to have, but they do it anyway." Delena smiles, and walks over to Felix. "So, care to tour the city with me? I usually look about cities I move into, and I could use some company, quite likely." -john "No cat out of its first fur was ever deceived by appearances, unlike humans, who seems to enjoy it." jf2z+@andrew.cmu.edu -The Last Unicorn From: Rannou@info.polymtl.ca (Patrick Rannou) Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1992 06:34:15 GMT Newsgroups: alt.pub.dragons-inn Subject: Re: [DQ] [L] Sunstorm to Helen [inn] In article <92202.201738ASG102@psuvm.psu.edu> ASG102@psuvm.psu.edu writes: [first riddle] >+ "A Book, a Rook, a Crook and a Nook, >+ A Cave, a Grave, a Grief and a Thief, >+ One contains a Secret, Steals it, Binds it, >+ And the Other contains only a Promise of Fear." > Helen: "One of you said that you didn't know what a rook was. I don`t know where he is, and the farthest I be from him, the happier I'll be! Thanks for the clue, but if I where you I'd get another clue: When you meet him, don't be too tall... -- /---------------------------\ | Patrick "Paradak" Rannou. | | Rannou@info.polymtl.ca | \---------------------------/
