Valgar slipped out of his trance and back into reality. His vision was still a little blurry, and his ears were filled with the sounds of battle. Lancos had apparently moved away in the scuffle. The sounds of massive, beating wings caught his attention, and he directed his gaze skyward. There, almost blocking out the sun, descended a large grey shape. As his vision cleared, Valgar saw its talons gleaming in the light. Instinctively, Valgar took a hunched stance and prepared to move at the proper moment. Eggbreaker dropped down like his stone namesake, talons ready to strike. Just when Valgar could see the creature's crimson eyes, he pivoted to one side and drove an elbow into the small of its back. The gargoyle crashed to the steel ground with an audible thump. Valgar rubbed his elbow. It hurt like hell. Without eggbreaker's momentum to assist him, he would have surely broken it. Its sharp talons had ripped a gash in his denim outfit. The gargoyle was already rising to its feet. It turned and lunged at him, wings beating frantically as it tried to bear the fleshy thing aloft. Valgar grabbed the thing around the neck and leaped onto its back. He reared back a heavy boot and rammed it into the muscled joint where wing met back. The gargoyle hissed and dropped a bit. Valgar booted it again, this time rolling over backward to pull its head down. Sure enough, they were at just the right altitude. Valgar landed on his feet and used their combined weight to ram the creature's head into the plaza steel. Eggbreaker lifted his head as ichor oozed from his smashed nose and mouth. "Dam grownz enshantd! Sumbitch boke my nodz!" High above circled screwrocks, tailgone, and eyestab. They laughed heartily at their comrade. "Don't play wit' it, just eat it!" screwrocks yelled. "E's not even armed!" Valgar didn't give eggbreaker time to recover. He suspected the plaza's steel was enchanted. He would have to use it as one big weapon. Valgar waited until his adversary was on all fours, about to get up. Then, he pounced, leaping with great ferocity and driving a knee into the thing's neck. His knee didn't do any damage, that was certain, but eggbreaker was getting intimate with the plaza again. Steaming blood spurted from its nostrils. Valgar was filled with rage. Old wounds had been reopened by that pyracubic thing. Memories he had buried long ago were reawakened. That, coupled with his frustration at being unable to harm these things directly, drove him nearly mad. Adrenalin pumped in his veins. Hair sprouted on his lip and chin. And blood seeped out from under his leather forearm guards. Old wounds had indeed been reopened. His arms felt like they were on fire as a strange sensation gripped him. He had never felt this way before. Valgar gripped the creature's head as it thrashed about. He jammed his thumbs into its nostrils and pried upwards.Eggbreaker spat in his face and ripped at his arms. With a bestial cry, he wrenched the gargoyle's head back and slammed it onto the warm steel. There was a crack and blood splashed across the ground. The gargoyle's chest heaved and its eyes rolled back. The others watched incredulously. "E' killt eggbreaker! Letz rip 'is eyes out!" eyestab screamed, wheeling into a dive. The others followed suit. Valgar prepared for their imminent attack. Eyestab's tail lashed across his chest, ripping cloth and flesh. He reached out and grabbed the tensile thing and wrapped it around his upper arm. He felt no pain as it tore chunks from his bicep. Valgar whirled and swung the gargoyle around to slam into his diving comrades. Screwrocks laughed as eyestab's horns ripped into tailgone's wings. His laughter was cut short, however, as tailgone clawed at him while dropping to the ground. Tailgone's wings flapped frenetically as he tried to stay airborne. Screwrocks gave him a friendly assist, by lashing him with the tail he envied so. Tailgone fell backwards and landed on his back, crushing his wings beneath his own bulk. Valgar let go of eyestab's tail and prepared for another assault. He positioned himself between the airborne duo and the supine tailgone. Screwrocks dove, knowing full well that the human would dodge. He also knew that if he missed, he would surely rip tailgone apart. Perhaps, that wasn't such a big loss. Really, he couldn't miss. Screwrocks bared his claws and struck. The human dodged as he suspected, and sure enough, he landed talons-first in the side of tailgone, whose entrails now littered the plaza. Valgar wondered how long they would fall for essentially the same trick. Eyestab was next, and he swooped down just like the rest. There was a vicious grin on his face, however. Valgar dismissed it as arrogance and bloodthirst, but instead found himself underestimating his adversaries. Eyestab pulled up at the last moment, feinting attack, and distracting Valgar. This allowed screwrocks to tackle the human from behind and slice at his back. Eyestab dropped down as they prepared to fillet the troublesome little bastiche. ADMIN: Can you say "HELP!" Not bad for a guy with no superhuman abilities, just pissed as hell. Boy, is Valgar gonna hurt when this is over! Raymond H.
