Unfortunately, Captain remembered, the hook and rope had burned up in the building which once held Rhoan trapped. Captain straightened back up from his search as Azzar's arrow found its way home. ----- The octopoid leviathan [hereafter referred to as "Sam" for my simplicity] was rather curious as to why this moving meat had entered its area. Sam was used to having dead animals delivered to him which really didn't supply much of a challenge. In fact, he had become so complacent with his extensive and frequent feedings (while the masters of this complex weren't big on feeding most of their guard animals -- keeps the edge on -- they had lost too many soldiers trying to move dead cows into position when they did not keep Sam well fed) that he really didn't find these pieces of moving meat any particular threat. After grasping a couple of them in his tenticles and finding out that they had an awful sting, he tried to eat one and see if it was as juicy as his normal meal. Just as he brought the wriggling piece of meat into position for a nice, good chomp, something hit him in one of his eyes! Fully unused to significant pain, Sam flailed his limbs about himself at once forgetful of the moving meat and extremely concerned about the pain in his eye. His arms first extended fully and then drew themselves up under the octopus as he scuttled into the sleeping corner of his room. ----- With amazing swiftness, the ocotopus dropped his remaining captives and withdrew. Rhoan, Kron, Azzar, Colin, and Captain [ADMIN: Am I missing anybody -- if so, add your names as appropriate in your mind as you read] looked at each other in amazement. The very thought that one arrow could hold such a creature at bay even for a moment was overwhelming. Kron was the first to act: He sprinted for the door previously blocked by the octopus and threw it open. The rest of the group got themselves into position behind Kron (Colin and Rhoan both had a hard time doing so due to thier recent close encounter with the floor) and all were in position when the door was opened. A bright light streamed out of the doorway and impaled the group where they stood. It was only after their eyes had adjusted to the light which seemed to be coming from a whirling chandelier fully twenty feet up in the air, that the group began to make its way into the room once more wary of traps which might impede their progress. With a boom, Captain closed the door seperating the group from the octopus. It was clear that this room would be no better than the previous rooms the group had faced. There were arrow slits in the walls from about ten feet on up and there were two unusually large slits which made Kron particularly uneasy. -- Captain
