  The use of wooden swords has confused Colin a moment.  Stout enough not to
shatter instantly upon receiving a normal blow, they also do not bounce in the 
same manner as metal.  Now, though, the real problem is the densely-packed 
stair; time is critical.

  *PANG*  With almost contemptuos ease, Colin whacks aside one of the bolts,
breathing a swift prayer of thanks to Mystra, goddess of Magic, for the gift
of the bracers.  And now...

  "YEEEEEHAAAAAAAA!"  With a blood-curdling screech, the Ranger charges down 
the obligingly open stairwell, exploding amongst the shocked crossbowmen like
a bomb, killing two and scattering the rest down the steps.  Behind him, the
guards boil in sudden confusion.

  Glancing about, he sees a grizzled-looking warrior advancing on him, no
doubt the leader of this group.  Drop him and the others will probably flee.
With a clash of sparks, Colin engages Werhner, as the battle continues to rage
on the stairwell...
